I'm looking to coat a stainless rifle, particularly a M70 EW. I just like the appearance of blued rifles better. I'm looking at Birdson Black T or Cerakote.

Which Cerakote color looks like blueing the most to you? Any other options I should consider?

I've had a couple of rifles coated in Black-T. That is some tough chit.

I've destroyed the paint job on my McMillan Edge on my .280, but the finish on the barreled action looks like new.

I just started the same discussion in the hunting rifle section.

I'm going with Black T on a R700 It coats everything but chamber/bore. They both work, 6 of this......

I would contact Eddief or Cas about the cerakote they could answer best as to what color would get you what you want.

Any of you checked out Metalife?

I was shopping between the Black T & Cerakote and decided on this after Grasshopper showed me an example of it. It looks JUST like stainless steel.

Metalife is well known for their chroming. Aalf listed one of his rifles up for sale a couple days ago that had the action hard chromed. It does look great, and much like stainless (and is very wear and weather resistant)

Yeah their trademark finish is modified electro less nickel w/ Rockwell 71.

I am doing a Mauser with it.

Reasonably priced on top of it...

Thats such a good looking gun. IMO it would be a shame to coat it.

I will have some stuff back from being Melonited next week. I will post some pictures for you to look at.

Its cheaper and more durable than having someone durcoat

Cheaper THAN or cheaper to have duracoating? I always thought Melonite was an expensive coating. Isn't it a vapor coating? PVD? May have it lumped in with all the high end pistol coatings that are showing up. Hard Chrome will look stainless, but your product can rust under the coating depending on how it is done. Seen it in 1911's that are a daily carry with rough weather and sweat. Mainly ignition system, not slide or frame.

What does it mean when the primers fall out of the case?

Tough to beat Black T. Longish turn time typically but have always thought the wait was worth it.

Here is a link to a post I made here regarding my Black T Winchester.

My vote goes to Black T, especially with Birdsong being Matt's neighbor.
