I just picked up a 1927 vintage Model 12 in 20 gauge. It is in good shape with an old reblue. The stock however has been shortened and otherwise bubba'd.

I got a replacement semi-finished stock from Gunstocks Inc. which is the proper perch belly style. My question is the width of the stock at the buttplate. The new stock is almost 1-3/4" wide while the buttplate is 1-1/2". I realize the new stock will be full for fitting, but has my buttplate been thinned. If someone has an original early Model in 20 gauge, I would appreciate if he could check the buttplate dimensions.

For the record, the Gunstocks Inc. stock is a good quality product. Wood quality and grain is very good. It is well machined with enough extra wood to permit proper fitting and finishing.

Pretty sure that 16 ga. and 20 ga. stocks are the same/interchangeable....the plate on my 1934 16 ga. is 1 1/2" wide.

Just went out and measured three of mine and they all are 1 1/2"

I wonder if you got a 12 ga stock? They fit the same thru bolt but are simply larger overall, but it is easy to slim them down to fit the 16/20/28 frames.

Thanks for the quick responses. Yes, the 16, 20 & 28 gauge share the same stock, the 12 is heavier. It is difficult to tell if my buttplate has been thinned, the stock has been shortened and thinned in that area, but the plate appears not to have been touched.

It is no big deal to remove the extra wood, I just don't want to end up with another bubba'd stock.
