Cold temps (29 F) Tuesday morning had me contemplating not making the 2 hour drive to hunt. 3 hours after daylight, and not sight or sound of a turkey, I was really regretting not sleeping in. Persistence paid off, though. I found two strutters around 10am. Lost contact with them for a while, but caught back up with them after noon. The result was a gimme 15-20 yard shot at the longest spurred eastern I've ever personally laid hands on. 11" beard, 19lbs 6oz, 1 9/16" right, 1 8/16" left spur.

Tried to talk Ebby into going with me. He chose to go somewhere else, and chose wrong. This bird had an identical one standing 2 yards from him when I shot

Heck of a bird.

My dad killed one near Bay Springs, MS with similar spurs when I was in highschool. We both hunted that bird 3 years before he finally killed him. Got him mounted in a full strut. My mom still hates the mount to this day. grin

Congrats for sure. Great Bird, you are right, I should have gone with you.

Guys, he put the hurt on another bird this morning.

Congrats again this morning on another fine specimen!

Oh yeah! Those hooks are fantastic. I have yet to get a bird with anything like those. Next week is our youth opener, and we can't wait to get out there.
