I have a single shot 22 bolt action that was passed down from my Grandfather to my Father to me. I can't find any markings other than "22 short long or long rifle." I don't see a serial number or any other markings. I've taken the stock off and still nothing. Any ideas? Help please. The rifle shows alot of wear but still shoots fine. My Grandfather was born in 1900 so it could be very old.

As stated pictures are a "must" to make an evaluation.

Serial numbers were not required before 1968, so you can't go by that.

I have an old Winchester 67, single shot 22 with no serial number.

It is the grooved forearm model, so I know it was manufactured around 1936.

From the shape of the trigger guard and the cocking piece my guess is a Stevens/Springfield Model 15 rifle.

Digger probably has a better answer than I did. Here are some good photos of a Model 53B:

Thanks for those answers. I'm looking up info on Stevens and it seems there is no way to date one of these old rifles. It's good to know what it is. My grandfather died in 1988 and my Dad doesn't know anything about the rifle except that it was given to him by his father. I shot my first rabbit with it decades ago while it was eating up our garden. It doesn't look like much but to me it's priceless. Thanks again.
