Haven't used it specifically in a RRA 1:12, but I have used Benchmark with 52 or 53gr Matchkings in a Rem VSSF with 1:12 twist with very good results.

Hornady 60 gr Vax with 26 gr of Varget , Rem 7.5 BR Primers . Chronograph from my AR with 16 inch barrel at 2804. Would be much faster from a 24 inch barrel . All my AR's group this load 1/2 or better.

I"d bet that the 60s will stabilize. Just barely but probably ok.

Is a 1:12 twist better for 55 and lighter weight bullets

The 1&12 should work fine with the Hornady 60 gr V-Max , Hornady bullets are usually shorter than other brands. Try them and see, you may be glad you did.

I just got a CZ American with the 1&12 and a buddies of mine told me it wouldn't shoot very well with anything over a 55 gr

Sighting in my Cz527 I thought I'd use some 62 grainers to get on paper at 25 yards. They went through sidways.

So anything over 55 gr is a waste of time .not that I need a bullet that heavy just wondering on the limits this rifle will handle

Yes, typically the max for a 1:12 is 55gr

1:9 is roughly a 65gr max

1:7 can handle the real heavy stuff

A 1/12 will do well with a lead core flat base 60-64 grain bullet such as the 60 gr Nosler Partition, 60 gr Hornady SP or HP, 64 gr Winchester Power Point semi spitzer or a Sierra 63 gr semi spitzer. It's the boat tails and plastic tips, which make the bullets longer for their weight, that keeps the heavier V-Max style bullets from being as good in a 1/12 twist.

.22/250's usually come with a 1/14 twist.

Generally yes, but the 14 inch twist will generally handle the 60-64 grain flat base lead core bullets too at the higher velocities that the .22/250 produces..

This.

I have a CZ527 in 1:12 and it will shoot Nosler Partitions and the Hornady 60 gr. SP (#2270), but not the bigger, sleeker bullets.

Varget is a good powder, but I prefer H4895. A lot of good powders for the 55-60 grainers though.

What is the OP's intended purpose?

I have used my CZ 1:12 to shoot quite a few game animals....
