Questions for anyone. I had a gunsmith install a side-mount scope mount, for my 30-30 lever action 94. I am ready to install the scope, but am not sure how to properly bore site the scope with the offset? (I do have all the equipment lapping bars, bore site setup and the levels). Also, I still have some issues with the shell casings striking the windage turrent. Can I rotate the scope 90o counterclockwise and utilize the "Elevation" as "Windage" on the left side and the former Windage turrent as now an elevation adjustment?

I don't bother with bore sighting a lever rifle. I use a 24" square target at 25 yards and go from there.

Thanks for the input on my scope mount issues. As I thought and from the replys' back, I rotated the scope 90o (counter clockwise AND effectively bore sited the 30-30 by moving the windage (formerly the elevation) to the cross-hairs of the bore site, made sure all was level and put lock tite (Blue) on all of the screws. This was after first aligning the scope rings and then lapping them for absolute trueness before installing the scope. Looks real good, now to the range for site-in tuning.

I installed a side mount and scope on a 94 a few months back. I don't bore sight anymore either. I just start at 25 yds. and the fine tune further out.
I assumed I would have to shoot more sight-in shots than usual given the bore alignment issues associated with a side mount. To my amazement, the first shot was perfectly aligned for elevation and only a few clicks off on windage. It was the quickest I have ever sighted one in!
Also, I didn't have any problems with shell casings striking the scope.
On my Remington model 81 I did have that issue. I solved that as you suggested by rotating the scope and using elevation for windage and windage for elevation. That takes a little thinking for my pea brain. LOL
