I have a new NOS Borden stock coming and I have always bedded my lugs tight w/no clearance. I usually use Acuraglas and wonder if this will be OK w/a 7mag. Never bedded one w/ this much recoil...am open to any and all suggestions. powdr

I really like Devcon. They make a stainless steel putty and also a titanium. I am not talking about the two-barrel syringe you get at the hardware store. The stuff I am talking about comes in a small plastic tub. There is also a hardener you mix with it. I've used Marine Tex too. Lots of guys like it. The Acra-glas is probably plenty strong for what you are using, but if you have any doubts, the Devcon stainless or titanium of the Marine Tex will do fine. You can also use JB weld. I used it a few times and it works great.
Communists: I still hate them even after they changed their name to "liberals". ____________________

Unless your action has the front action screw going directly into the bottom of the recoil lug, I'd strongly suggest .020-.030 clearance around the front, bottom and sides of the lug....tight against the recoil surface (back of the lug) only. Pro Bed has proven itself to me over many seasons. Good shootin' and have fun with your project. -Al

No reason to bed tight. Just takes a couple of layers of tape to the lug, then bed normally. Makes it a lot easier to get apart.
I think, therefore I am, conservative.

exactly how i do it , and any of the bedding materials available will work , however i do use johnsons furniture wax(paste) for a release agent , works like a charm.

Hey powdr, my 7 Rem is bedded with AcraGlas Gel and shoots very well. I just did the lug and a few inches forward of it, with no tape on the lug. It's a little tight coming apart, but I've found bedding tighter helps with keeping my rifles shooting consistently. Just my views....

Thanks Tanner. I have done the same and had the same results. Most people have never bedded one tight so don't really know. To all the guys that responded I want to say thank you. I think I'll bed this one w/clearance and see how it shoots. powdr

After bedding the last three with Devcon, I'll never go back to Acraglass. Neutral Kiwi shoe polish as a release agent....

I use Marine Tex simply because the devcon steel bed has to be bought in a 1 lb container and you can get a little 2 oz. kit of marine tex for 1/4 the price. The marine tex kit will do a couple of rifles easily. Marine Tex and Devcon steel bed are both great stuff, I don't think one is any better than the other.

I've used marine-tex, but mixing the ratios is a pain in the ass. Going to switch to something with a 1:1 instead.
