I just can't seem to get any kind of accuracy out of those Colibri suckers.

They're not really in the same league as the longs. Much less powerful I'd say but they are also much quieter.

But they kill squirrels and rabbits and...(ahem)...cats.

I've gotten pretty good accuracy with them out of rifles to 20 yds. Never really grouped them in a handgun, but they kill stuff dead.

The Colibris shoot OK for me out of a S&W Model 17.

These are all at 10y: CCI Standard vel (left), CCI Short doing 625 fps (middle), Colibri doing 400 fps(right).

They're really fun to shoot!

I'm shooting grouse in the head at that range which is why those colibri groups won't suit.

I'll group them out of that LCR next time I hit the range.

justeth,

Have you shot the Quiets out of your Smith?

I really want to love them but I can't. They're quiet in my Pro-Lite, but won't cycle, they shoot well in my LCR but they stop being quiet.

When I'm out hiking or backpacking, the Buckmark with standard CCI blazers is on my hip (and the Redhawk on my chest). If I'm big game hunting, I'm not into dealing with small game. I try to be low profile. If the location allows though, I do pack my 4 piece fly rod for the occasional afternoon rest/ relaxation.

Travis,
They aren't "quiet" per se compared to a Colibri, but they are still significantly quieter than a normal .22 lr load. I've shot grouse while bow hunting with a friend who was no more than 75 yards away (through the woods) and he never knew that I'd fired. Either it sounded like my clumsy self snapping a branch as I "tip toed" up the grade or he just didn't hear it. For me, I like the accuracy & of the quiets -- I'll rest the pistol in the notch of a tree to get a good rest & will wait for a good head shot on a grouse. I've seen elk & deer 1-2 minutes after shooting.

You might also consider a slingshot, but it takes a lot of practice (which I don't do) to be pretty competent with it. Muzzleloader balls, rocks, ball bearings, etc are all good ammo. It's a legal method of take in Colorado at least

I always carry a few rounds of a reduced load for my hunting rifle for shooting grouse and rabbits.

A LOT quieter than the full-power loads, and they work great.

I've killed a few pot grouse with subsonic rocks. I always have a few laying around my feet.
