the answer should be pretty obvious.....the lower your administrative profile the better, and zero is best of all.

not that I own any guns that weren't papered, of course, but when they go house to house with a list, it would be better to have some that weren't on that list....speaking hypothetically of course.

If one is purchasing guns to re sell at, say a gun show, it is much better for the gun to be 'sterile' or off the books so that it would be much harder for an .gov operative to claim or make a case that one was "Dealing" in guns without an FFL. Or, for the IRS to claim that a person was making money buying and selling without reporting any income from those dealings.

RE the knock, there are going to be lots and lots of folks with an administrative profile as it was so well put in this thread, but the lower that profile and the fewer the traceable guns the better in my opinion. In no way can I see them trying to oncarcerate EVERY person who has ever owned a firearm. The prisiooners would VASTLY outnumber the guards, even if every single non gun owning person was employed as a prison guard!

As things stand at present it would be pretty easy to get your guns off-paper. Create a Bill of Sale to the person you sold the gun to ( ) before the law was enacted, and should they ever go door to door...those guns are now 'gone'.

I'm so well known as a gun nut that it won't matter if the guns are papered...because there's enough paper on me to do the dirty work, if it comes to that. Fortunately I am old and will be leaving soon.

I think "The Knock" is over rated. As you say there isn't enough room in jails for a fraction of gun owners.

Much easier to freeze retirement accounts and tax refunds, deny Social Security and Medicare benefits, freeze all credit lines, and goodness knows what else, until you've turned in "voluntarily" every gun for which the government see's you've filled out a Form 4473.

If you sold or gifted the gun, get a lawyer.

Looks to me like the tools are in place. All that's needed is someone to lead us over this new cliff.

I used to think this sort of thing would never happen in my lifetime. I'm 60 now and am not so sure.

That should wake up a few folks.

Confiscation is less of a real threat than is taxation. Mass., Md., and Nev. are currently considering taxes on newly purchased firearms. The feds and the atf have repeatedly mulled a means to tax (register) guns already in your home.

Tax, and insurance, will be the new limits.
