Well the 2nd annual Mountain Chicken Alpine Ski Tour/Hunt went down this past weekend. My buddy KC at work had just retired at 60 a few weeks back and we had a decent weekend wx fcst. KC is more into the ski touring and route finding aspect, while I'm more into the hunting part, especially when you can get into unhunted (by others) areas. But I also like the GPS and Google Map stuff.

We start at the top of the mountain after riding two chairlifts and then drop off the backside.

The weather started getting better and after we dropped about in elevation started hearing Hooters below us.

I got a second bird and KC got one and missed another. Here's some of the gear I use. The rifle is a T/C 1st gen Contender. It has the rynite stock and a Custom Shop 221 Fireball bbl. It is deadly accurate. Take the hinge pin out and I can stash it in the backpack for riding the lifts.

After getting my Southeast tan going (= sunburn) it was time for the hike out. Now I'm probably a better downhill skier than KC, but even at 10 years older than me, he kicks my butt on the climbs - partly due the the equipment he has (much lighter). Anyway, no complaints as he broke trail which I tried to keep up on.

Good vistas on the climb out as we approach the top of the mtn.

Finally made it back to the top. Had emergency rehydration barley pops buried in the snow which tasted mighty fine.

Looking forward to next year's event already!

I'm jealous

Didn't see any. There are some Ptarmigan on Douglas Island, but more on the mainland. I will see them on the ski slopes a bit in February. They will hit the alder buds when then start budding, but they are not doing so at elevation quite yet.
