What say you, I picked up a Schultz and Larsen 7x61S&H a few days ago and I was wondering how many folks have hunted with or had experience with this cartridge and what do you have to say good or bad about it. It is a model 60 with an older leupold scope with the adjustable mounts for the scope.

I got one, I shot it some, it shot the Norma 154 gr load well enough. Mine has a 1-14 twist. Nice well made gun. Thou 7 x 61 S+H is hard to come by now, Norma stopped loading ammo for it, so it becomes a hand loading deal now. I am wondering if a rebarrel to 7mm RM would solve the ammo and case problems. It was the hot rock rifle and cartridge of the 1950's till the 7mm RM and the 700 came along in 62! I have other guns, its a nice period rifle you have there, I am more likely to keep mine original. I got a good 7mm RM now no need for another.

Huntington's has 7x61 Super cases, Hornady stocks dies.

I like 154's in mine. The first owner liked 140's. It has a 26 in barrel.

With Super cases it is a 7mm Rem Mag minus 50-100 fps.

Easy cartridge to load for.

A 7x61 S&H was my go to rifle for nearly fifteen years and it certainly is an eficient 7mm. Load with confidence that there is no practical difference between it and the RM. Had it not been for the introduction in the expensive Danish S&L rifles the 7mm RM would not have seen the light of day and we would be just as well served with the 7x61 as a med to high performaning 7mm.

I am turning green here; the Schultz & Larson is an unbelievably well made rifle! That cartridge is a great one, too.

Great score.

I just bought 2 boxes of Norma 7x61 Super ammo w/154 grain bullets. The rifle is 1 in 12 twist with a 26 inch barrel. The ammo showed up today so hopefully a trip to the range tomorrow and see what it will do. I also picked up a C&H die that was brand new in the box with the receipt still taped to it. It cost $15.00 at the Malta Sports Center in Malta Montana in 1983.

Took the rifle to the range Sunday, the scope was sighted in to shoot about 2 inches high at 100 yards and the 5 shot group was about 1.5 to 1.75 inches with three of the holes touching. This was just using a rifle case for a forend rest, so I'm really excited to work up some loads for this. Anyone have a pet load that they have used?

Bart: Nosler 160 Partition, 60 grs. H4831 & Fed. 210 Match primers. Chronographs around 2860-2875 from a 26" barrel. Fine accuracy and doesn't appear to be a max. load. Still, probably best to work up to it.
