I'm curious as to what thread the fore end machine screw is.. It is almost a 8-32. Some one had tried re threading or force threading a 10-32 sling swivel machine screw in the stud. The stud seems to be ok. But I need a new screw. Numrich 99 parts don't state the thread size...Thanks for the help..

8-40 is a common thread size for some scope base screws such as those used on Rem.7400, 750 and Marlin 336. i have made my own from scratch or modifying an uncle mike's machined detachable swivel stud - these seem soft, however. Msc industrial supply has 8-40 dies. Good luck with it. Mel

Thanks for the reply Mel..I could find some short 8-40's but the 99R fore end screw needs at least 7/8" screw portion to secure to the stud. I looked through the proverbial hay stack looking for one long enough with a proper head and not stainless steel. Numrich doesn't state the thread size. I emailed them and it turns out they are 8-40 by 1". I only needed one screw so I was trying to find the screw rather than pay the cost of a die. I have read on this forum and others that finding 8-40's is a problem for a lot of gun owners. Maybe the sticky or such needs a Go-To for these hens teeth.. Harv..

Some info for Savage 99R owners that need a forearm screw. The one I bought from Numrich fit perfectly.. I'm Happy..
