I have a 30 degree Big Agnes down bag that I recently got a good deal on. Some of you guys turned me on to the Kifaru Woobie in an earlier thread. I was wondering how much protection/ warmth do you think that would add to my 30 degree bag? Anyone have any experience here with something similar?

I've been comfy into the 40's with just the Woobie. I haven't tried it as a liner, but I'm thinking you'd be good into the teens.

Here are the Bag and Woobie in Question. Im thinking this would be a real nice Modular system to cover 4 seasons. Total cost would be about $310.00, and total weight would be 3 lb 10 .oz when carrying both. I can live with that.

Mark,
I have a 20 Kifaru Slick bag that seems to work as a 30 deg bag for me. I added a woobie as a liner and was comfortable to 9 degrees when wearing long underwear, socks and a hat. So, I'd say it's good for 15-20 degree improvement for me at least.

Don't have a woobie, but my BA Encampment that was rated to 15 was cold for me at around 25. I now have the farwell which is rated to 0. I bet the woobie in the BA would work just as you planned. There would be plenty of room in my BA bag for a liner, no problem.

This idea should work, I've cobbled stuff like that together before. The ideal is a "lightly insulated bivy", as Kevin of Seek Outside suggested. That way, you'll only carry the synthetic insulation you need, and no more.

Something like a Z-products, center-zip bivy, cuben floor with maybe a removeable synthetic batt.
