Dwayne!

As always, great to hear from you.

Work'll be done soon enough (though it's never over), hope your day was a productive one.

Our eldest daughter and I have been going to the local gun show together for the last 3-4 years and we were there again last weekend.

She ended up with a couple good used pocket knives and we picked up another SAK for her sister too. I ended up with a bolt for a Mauser 98 action that's been sitting in the safe for too long now waiting for me to get struck by inspiration. It's a clean VZ24, so I really should do "something" with it someday.

Anyway, while we didn't pick up any new firearms from the show, we followed last year's trend and ended up with an addition to the family battery afterwards....

If I ever don't have to work weekends, I'll try to do a bit of a photo essay on how lever guns get reworked at our place - oh, the new addition is an older 336 Marlin in .30-30, so it'll make a nice camping and firewood cutting companion.

Seems "worth" the price of admisson to me (and then some).

I've drooled over your bolt guns for years, now you're going to light another fire as well.

Shows will probably be packed with folks wanting to buy from individuals and not have it registered.

I despise the goobs who promote the local shows, and refuse to put any money in their pockets. Besides, the days of finding a deal at gunshows is pretty much over. I'm not going to spend a premium to look at the same old shopworn crap dragged from one gunshow to the next gunshow for the last ten years. If I want to over-pay for a used gun, I'll just go to the new Cabela's.
Being told my XXXXX (in better shape than the one on their table) is worth half of what they're peddling doesn't make me happy, either.
Now and then, you can find a part for something that you just didn't find locally, or perhaps an accessory. I've got so much of that crap now, that I don't want to drag any more of it home.
I'm passing on the gunshow happening less than 2 miles from me right this minute.

I'm not sure what kind of economic theory explains why some of these guys hang onto rifles and shotguns for more than a year, carrying them back and forth, taking up table space, and refusing any offer that might result in a sale.

They like camping, drinking, cards, and lying to their buds after the show. Gives them something to do and a place to go. If they sell the junk they won't have an excuse.

Sherri and I still do really well at the gun shows, both in selling (We price our stuff low enough to actualy sell most of it) and buying. In my safe right now are a Winchester Model 57 target 22 that I traded a Flobert rifle and a beat up pump shotgun for, a Remington 341 that I paid $100.00 for and a new in the box, absolutely gorgeous High Standard Sport King 22 pistol that I took home for $220 cash.

The deals are there, for both buying and selling, if you look hard and are patient. And, the two promoters that I deal with are good solid folks whose company I enjoy. Many freinds that we look forward to seeing at the shows, too. My opinion and experience FWIW.

You can waste close to $10 just going to see a movie these days (while supporting some gun grabbing lib in the process). I'd much rather spend $7 to go look at hundreds of tables filled with guns, inflated prices or not.

Now's the time to concentrate on knives and other things, while everyone else is going nuts over AR's and ammo.
