I've got an old Rem 722 with a 26" barrel that I'd like to start load development for... Any bullet/load recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also I'd like to ask opinions on this cartridges lethality on coyotes inside 150 yards...

I shot mainly Re-12 and 40's,in my Deuces.

Dogs aren't gonna shake that impact velocity.....................

I have had good luck with several 222's with IMR 4198 at the 19.5 level and 50 grain bullets......the 50 gives a little more penetration on coy's but is good and stable in the 1 in 14 twist of most 222's.......I use Win small rifle primer or Rem 7 1/2......without much difference in performance....hth..good luck and good shooting-loading!!

I use AA2015 (formerly 2015BR) and 52gr Hornady A-MAX. I'm shooting out of a 20" HB. I don't use this on Coyotes. I step up to a 55gr Sierra HPBT in a 22-250. I only use the Deuce on critters up to fox and woodchuck size inside of 200yds.

Mine really likes 22-22.5 grs of Rel 7 under a Hornady 40 gr VMax. Velocity runs 3,280 - 3,450 fps and 5 shot groups at 100 yds average around 0.30".

That is exactly the same load that my 222 likes and I get about the same results

Ole standby: 21.0 gr. of 4198 with 50 gr. bullet. Fill it up, seat it and shoot it. It will shoot good. Take it to the bank.

I have always found the .222 easy to load for. Factory max. loads with Imr-4198, BL-C(2), and W-W- 748, with almost any bullet, has got the job done in sveral .222's.

Another excellent load!

My benchrest rifle of yesteryear loved 19.6 gr of IMR 4198, with the 52 grain bench bullet of the day (1970).
But, my current duce LOVES RL-7 with 50 gr Noslers. 4198 doesn't come close.

Some good loads listed already but the best load in my M788 with 24" barrel for coyotes out to 300 yards was the 45 gr Hornady Hornet bullet over 26 gr of H335. These ran 3450 fps in R-P cases and WSR primers. Accuracy for 5 shots was in the .5s and .6s. Never had an exit to repair on a coyote. Never had to shoot one twice.

My old varmint special loves H-322 and any 40 to 55 grain bullet you want to set atop it. Coyotes inside 150 yards? Yes, my kid uses it for Whitetails at that distance.

25 gr of WW748 with 50 gr Horn SX does well for me.

My Remington 788 loves this Recipe: Hornady's #2250 53 grn. HP match bullets with 23.5 grns. of BL-C2. I use an OAL of 2.045. This load usually puts 3 shots in the .2's & .3's at 100yds and about an inch at 200yds. I have just finished loading the same recipe except with hornady's #2249 52 grn. HPBT match bullets,i suspect that performance will be similar but have yet to take it to the range.
