Any suggestions for some low rings (and not the high/extra high) for a Ruger Hawkeye in .358 Winchester?

I am looking to mount a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33 atop and want minimal clearance between objective and barrel. I am not liking the options since Talley LW's are not made for the Hawkeye.

Thanks for the suggestions -

Are you wanting low mounting height for the scope or light weight in the rings? Have you tried the Ruger low rings?

I don't think Talley sells rings for any Rugers, unless they snuck them in recently. wink

I want both...grin...

I'll take low mounting heighth over lightweight for this rig though -

I cannot find any factory Ruger lows anywhere -

Hawkeyes come with a #4 and #5 ring. If the rings are unopened (or you can convince them that they are unused) you can send the #5 back to Ruger and they will exchange it for a #3 so you can use the #3 / #4 combo. It is not exactly a "low low" ring set but is as low as I think you can get from Ruger for your 33mm scope.

I have used leupold lows to mount a 3-9x40 leupold on a short action ruger. I couldn't bring it back very far before the objective hit the barrel, but the eye relief was just right as it was. I like my scopes low, and I was very happy with the setup. I think the leupolds only come in matte finish for the lows. They feel a lot nicer to me than the factory rings as well.

Warne makes Ruger rings as well. Check them out. I'm a fan of them.

Leupold lows are the way to go. I have them holding a 2.5-8 on my African. No clearance problems at all.

I received the rifle with scuffed rings and they would not trade them in as you suggest. Made me want to dump the rifle but it was a Buds gunshop special. I got a stainless Hawkeye in .358 for I think (if I remember correctly) $475. It shoots 225 grain Nosler Partitions with a max load of TAC at 2,525 fps. The last group I shot with it was about a 1 1/2" 3-shot group at 220 yards with the untouched factory rifle so my practicality overwhelmed my pissedoff-ness at that time and I still own the rifle...grin...

I spent 30 minutes and found 1 place that had 1 low (#3), matte, 1", matte ring in stock and I snatched it up...

Thanks fellers -
