Thanks to the powder shortage I have been forced to experiment with a few new powders. I'm able to get my hands on Accurate 2700. It looks like it should work fine in the creedmoor. Anyone use this powder in the creedmoor? What's the velocity and accuracy like?

I've not had any success in the 6.5CM but H4350 and Varget.

Unfortunately I've had a hard time finding H4350 and varget. Those would be one of my top choices.

Try W-760, H-414, RL-19 if you have them

Ramshot Hunter's another really good powder in the Creedmoor, if you have or can find some. Cleaner burning and less temp-sensitive than 760/414 (same powder) and also less temp-sensitive and easier-metering than RL-19.

Another good thing to know is that a course record matching score was shot at Whittington's Sporting Rifle Match (a long range hunting style match) was shot with the Creedmoor, Winchester 760, and the 139 Scenar in the middle of July

Accurate 2700 is quite similar to H414/W760 and they perform quite well in my CM. Also RL17 which I see more of on the shelves in some stores works well. Hunter, Hybrid 100V, H4831,and RL22 have turned in some good performance. Problem with most of these powders is their sensitivity to temp changes. Even small performance changes can produce very noticeable changes on target at very long range. If you have access to 2700 give it a try, I haven't seen any around here or I would probably check it out. H4350 & Varget seems to be the darlings of CM shooters but I suspect they will be pretty scarce for quite some time.

I used to run a lot of 760/414 and did quite well with it, though had to keep in mind the results could vary somewhat between zero and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. With H4350 and Hunter available, I pretty much quit using it about 10 years ago, though did recently pick up a pound of 414 just to see if it's been improved at all in recent years.(Of course, that was before Obama Panic 2, when powder could actually be found in sporting goods stores.)

I started using 760 as a kid in my 22-250 for prarie dogs, so when I had my first Creedmoor built, I tried it as well as with RL-17. I was looking to "hot rod" the cartridge. When I was breaking the new barrel in with the Scenars, I loaded some up with 760, 780, and 17 just to see which gave good velocity and some accuracy promise.

The first 3 shots out of the gun with 41 grains of 760 went into the same hole.

I've since changed over to H-4350 as it seems to give a bit better accuracy, but with the 760 and the load developed via Audette sure shot well.

The H-4350 I'm using now is the slowest 4350 ever made. Didn't hit pressure til 45 grains. Load is 43.6 for accuracy. Getting great velocity up close to 2900 with the 140's. Knowing this makes me think that a powder with a burn rate slightly slower than H-4350 (normally) would be just the ticket for the Creedmoor.

Which is exactly where Hunter is. It's about like Reloder 19, but more temp-resistant, or at least my lots have been. Plus it's a very dense ball powder, so more can fit in cases.

In the only 6.5 Creedmoor I've fooled with, one of the original Ruger Hawkeyes with 26" barrel, Hunter got just under 3100 with 120 Ballistic Tips and around 2850 with 140 Berger VLD's, both with excellent accuracy.

That is great to know with the scarcity of H4350.

Actually, I forgot about shooting another 6.5 CM. I owned the Ruger for over year, but also tested a heavy-barreled Savage target rifle for an article. It also did real well with Hunter, especially with the 130 Berger VLD.

I have IMR 8208xbr, alliant power pro 2000MR, and some superformance on hand. Anyone load the creedmoor with these powders?

I tried one sequence one time with 8208 and some 120-class Lapuas. 8208 is, IMO, a bit too fast a powder for the Creedmoor. Groups were so-so, but again it was 1 load sequence 1 time. Oddly, either the guns I have that I've tried 8208 in just don't like it, or I just can't load it right or something. I've not had better than middling results with any 8208 load in anything, so I'm not buying any more of it.

In contrast, Nosler says 8208 was their most-accurate powder tested in the Creed with lighter (120-class, IIRC) bullets. So clearly YMMV.

8208 is my go to powder for the .338 federal. It looks like it would work for the creedmoor but velocity would be low compared to other powders.

I got a deal on some Hodgdon H414(win 760) yesterday. I hear it can be temperature sensitive. Anyone have experience with h414 or win 760 in the cm. How did it work for you?

I have but I'm always looking for more info. On a few other sites I found some fairly negative comments on h414 and win 760. Some say its quite temp sensitive (inconsistent accuracy and velocity) , and dirty. Wondering if others have seen this.

Just to reiterate, I've matched a course record at a long range match with 760 (414) with the 139 Lapua Scenar in the 6.5 Creedmoor.

There has been a total of 8 (eight) 58's shot on the Whittington Sporting Rifle Match since its inception. Started in 2005 I believe shooting 8 months (8 shoots per year). Sometimes over 70 people attend each match.

Conservatively 3600 matches shot and 8 have shot 58, the highest score ever shot with any rifle/component combination.

One was with Winchester 760 as the powder and I would bet the ONLY one.

...and you are asking if it will work???????
