I was looking over my collection recently, and realized the only .25 cal I had is a 25-06. Not trying to fill a void or anything practical, just getting some ideas for the next time I get the bug and some hidden funds.
What are your thoughts and favorites in .25 ?
Thanks

My only .25 is a 257AI that is very close ballistically to the 25-06. This is probably my favorite rifle and is used for everything from coyotes to deer. If a wildcat interests you, give it a try.

If you want a wildcat a 25-284 is a good one. The 25 WSSM is something that kinda gets my attention, ....don't know why?

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I'm relatively new to the quarter bore. My Dad used a .25-06 for many years with great results, and I've had a .257 Bob for a couple years now. Mine is a 700 Mnt Rifle. It carries well, and shoots lights out! It's a joy all the way around.
Other .25's that hold interest to me are a .25-08, .257 SAUM, and the .25-.284. Don't know if I'll ever get around to building any of these, but they're on the To-do list!

My first rifle was a .25 Stevens and except for a nice 25-35 High Wall that I traded off thats it.

About the time I had my own money the 6mm's came out and otherwise it's .30 cal country here.

To each his own.

I have one of two .257 Roberts' I have owned. I have none of the four rifle I have had chambered for the .25-06. I can't really explain why, other than that the Roberts just seems "right" to me. I really enjoy shooting it, loading for it, and now that my son has taken his first deer with a .257 Roberts, I suspect the one I have will stay here for some time. Very low recoil, very low noise, very dead deer.

I have used a .25-06 in the past, and have great respect for it. I have acquired the "quarter bore bug", and plan on satisfying it with a .250 or .257 barrel for my Encore.

You need one on either side of that 25-06, therefore, you need to obtain a .257 Roberts and a .257 STW...

My first rifle was a .25-06, made and given to me by my dad. I'm thankful that such a versatile and accurate gun is on my "never-lose" list.

There is something really good about the .25 rounds. I have also put a .257 Rbts in the rack and now a .250 Savage. Something about low recoil and heavy bullet weights makes for very dead deer and fun shooting.

Good shooting,

Good shooting,

My favorite bullet for the 25-06 is the Hornady 120 hollow point game bullet. lights out.

I think you need one of those cute little Winchester lever action rifles in 25-20.

Factory .25 calibers currently run from the .25-20, through the .25-35, the .250-3000, the .257 Roberts, and the .25 WSSM, up to the .25-06 and the .257 Weatherby. Obsolete (as in not currently loaded for) .25 bores include, among perhaps others, the .25 Rimfire and .25-36 Marlin.

Wildcats run from the AIs (.25-20, .25-35, .250-3000, .257 Roberts, and .25-06) to the .25-08, .257 STW, .25-284, and .25 WSM, among a few more obscure.

For what the best quarter-bores are (long range varmint, antelope, and deer rounds), they are very, very hard to beat. The give up a ton on stuff larger than deer, although the .257 Roberts (SAAMI and AI), the .25-06, .257 Roy, and .25-284 and .257 STW can and do take elk with little problems if handled correctly by a shooter who uses premium bullets and has the discipline and skill to know their rifle and their ability.

One day, soon, I will have a quarter-bore. Like either a .257 Roberts or a .25-06. In fact, if I were not selling stuff off, a certain H&R break-action with 26" barrel and .25-06 bore would likely have found it's way home already. Very accurate.

Hmmm... maybe that pre-64 M70 sticks around and becomes another member of the '06 family...

Figured as much...

Ain't no flies on the .25 ointment for what they're for. Hard to justify one if you've got something like a .22-250, .223AI, or .220 Swift AND a .270, .280, or 7RM.

Then again, if you have something like a .25-06, .25-284, .25 WSM/WSSM, or .257 Roberts AI, it's hard to justify the other two...
