With the understanding the partition is also a great bullet, the kids and I pretty much load TTSX's for our rifles as we've had great results with them. Our favs are:
.243 80
.270 130
7x57 140
280AI 150
30'06 150 or 168
300 H&H 180

I have always preferred mid range weight in bullets such as 150grs in 7mm and 165 in .30 cal, etc. That said I'm starting to play with 140 TTSX in 7x57 and 120's in a 7-08.

It seems that the more I study on it, the more I lean towards the heavier & more streamlined bullets of premium construction.
Application certainly plays a part, but with many rifles in various calibers, I find myself trying to consolidate somewhat.
There are so many choices out there today, and when it comes right down to it, most all of the do a good job of killing game animals when properly placed.

Never strike the fancy, usually not fatal. But if you must, 140 grain .264.

After using a 270 for 25 years, I concluded that the 150 is more useful. It will hit at almost the same point of impact at any distance and hit harder when it gets there.

With today's bullets and North America's variety of game, many combos will work. That being said, I'm continually impressed with cup/core 165-168gr bullets in the .308 and 30-06.

My 7mm Remington Mag, likes 150 gr bullets, so I been shooting those the last 7 seasons. In the past I shot 175 gr Bullets out of a 7mm RM along with 160's and 139/140 gr out of a 7mm Weatherby. I kind of like the 150 gr weight, middle of the road weight wise, and its been very effective on the game I have shot with it.

Whatever shoots well in a particular rifle.

My 7x57 has never cared for anything in the 140's, so I use 154's, and they kill great. I haven't found any 130's that will group well in my .270 (shhhh! Don't tell Ingwe! blush). 140's and 150's work well though, so that's what I shoot. I have a .300 Savage that shows no love for 150's, 165's, or 180's, but it just dotes on those cute li'l 130 TSX's. Boom - problem solved.

After I find a weight that shoots well in a rifle, then I can find bullets in that weight that will perform well at whatever velocity that rifle is able to fling 'em. I'll get more hung-up on bullet construction/performance, than weight.
