LBSmith, that 30mph wind will be fun! Shooting in the position you did I need to do more of.

Not sure what action you have. But here is the web site that makes the stock that I have. Great People, Scott McRee is a good dude to deal with.

Jordan Smith, Yeah I bet you get wind up or down a canyon thats very hard to detect. Good shooting man!

I was reading through my posts and I have only done 11 days including today. So I will report one more tomorrow.

Today winds were terrible. 24 mph out of the south. I picked 665 yards off shooting sticks. I had to hold 2 mils for wind, I moved my scope 2.8 mils from zero. I had a pretty good rest, I was using a tree as a back rest and had myself crunched up in a tight ball to hold the rifle steady....Hit. It wouldn't have been a hit in a 6" circle but I was very surprised I hit steel!

Here is a summery of my shooting...

Day 1... 1000 yards,...Miss... 22 mph wind full value

Day 2...645 yards....miss(hit target but not 6"from center). wind quartering to target at 25 mph.

Day 3...715...Hit....winds calm, center of target.

Day 4...517...Hit...winds 5 mph quartering to target.

Day 5...804...Miss...Winds 7mph full value, missed by .5 mil(windier down range)

Day 6...680...Miss...Jerked the crap out of the trigger(boy showed me up)

Day 7...cleaned rifle....Hit 525...Hit 640...Hit 711...Hit 804...Hit 1000. 5 shots 5 hits.

Day 8...924...Hit but not 6" from center. Winds half value 5mph.

Day 9...1104...Miss...but put the rest of rounds I had in rifle on target(4 rounds).

Day 10...500 with sticks...Hit but not 6" from center. Winds 10 mph full value.

Day 11...665 with sticks...Hit but not 6" from center. Winds 24 mph full value.

I asked a 90% question a year ago.
http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f17/how-far-away-will-you-shoot-deer-88867/#post629725

I have been building myself ~ 3 rifles per year.
In 2011 I was really good out to 500y with a 7mmRM, but could not rely on 600y.
In 2012 I was good to 400y with a 257RAIR.

I am building a 270 and and a 7mmRM right now.
My goal is 600 yards.

Just made my final shot. I picked 777 yards...lucky number 7. Ind today was stiff, around 30 mph. It was a 4.5 mil hold for wind. I move 3.9 mils up from zero....Hit. About 2.5" from center.

I shot a few rounds at 1000 yard gong, and hit it a couple times, I had to move my scope for wind because it was 6 mil hold for wind and I only have 5 in my scope. It was fun to play around with it.

So my total is 8 hits in 12 days on game size targets(coyotes antelope and deer. But only 4 hits that were less than 6" from center. I am pretty happy with that, there is room for improvement that for sure.

Man! I wish I lived in country here I could have room to shoot like that! Real shooting you're doing there! I'm jealous

Anytime, my door(or range) is always open. I am gonna try to do some long range PD hunts this summer too. You are more than welcome to come shoot with me. I do alot of cowboy action and mounted shooting too, you can try your hand at that as well.
