I got this at the local gunshow the weekend before last. Went through the show in the morning with my dad and uncle, didn't see much of intrest. There was a lot of AR's and overpriced ammo. We left to eat some bbq and I decided to return solo to kill some time. Found a nice fellow walking around with this, talked guns awhile, haggled, and I finally ended up with it. Really glad I did, too. Old walnut and blue steel is what I like and this one is in pretty nice shape for being made in 1946. Never had one of these models before, can't wait to shoot it. It was clean, too! Took it apart to clean it up and discovered no grime or gunk, I just oiled it up.

Go over to RimfireCentral and read up on it. Don't remember exactly but something about cocking with safety on it will lock up...then very difficult to disassemble. Very nice shape for one that old.

Nice grab, enjoy it. And when you're done with it let me know when you want to get rid of it.

.Hey 348: . 25+ yrs ago at a Garbage Sale, an elderly man was moving to a senior center. I asked if he had any hunting items, knives, am mo, etc. Only thing he had left, hidden in a closet, was a Win.74 .22, like yours but not as in nice condition, OK. . Asked how much? Ah, Er, $25. I had just $20. left. He took it. Then said he had some original papers that came with it. Bill of sale was from my dad's sporting goods store & dad had made it out. Recognized the hand writing. Kept it quite a few years & found a guy who wanted to buy in the best way. "SOLD." . So goes life and your toys! . ... 99 LL ...

Congrats on a good find. Those are nice guns .. had one for a while back in the early '80s.

Those 74's are are great. Accurate, rugged and easy to maintain. Enjoy a classic.
