Having discovered a second Forbes 30-06 in my safe, I thought it would be prudent to get them both to the range on a nice spring day with no wind. I dedicated one rifle to the 180gr class of bullet and the other to the 150gr weight. Taking some new WW brass, I loaded 20 cases with 150gr Accubonds and 60gr H4350 which is listed at 62gr(C). Not looking for a compressed load I back off to 60 grains which came up about 1/4 up the neck. I wrote my target card data with a Sharpie so I think you can read it. I'll be back to tweak a minor amount and to verify by repeating the results. Here you go.....

The top one. Due to time constraints I just shot 3 each. Next weeks session will have the 24HCF mandated 5 shot groups. I'm going to back down the 60gr to 59gr for the 150's. With a 6 power at 200 yards, I'm happy with the results.

That 180 grain load is dialed in. I'd quit there and start killing stuff!

how is the fit and finish on the Forbes?
Any other photos of the rifles would be appreciated.
Anything you don't like about them?
What glass you running on them?
Thanks!

J, I did an extensive review about a month ago. This post also compared the Forbes vs. the Kimber Montana with measurements as to how the grip sizes in both were different. The fit and finish is very good. I did nothing to either rifle as they come fully bedded. I adjusted the triggers to 2 1/2#'s. Using a Wheeler inch/pound tool I screwed the supplied talleys on at 25 inch pounds. I am using FX II 6x36 Duplex on both. I have bought into the Barsness theory of signal power scopes. I wish somone made a 8 power though. Some may shun the push feed design and the blind magazine. Others may be critical of the two position, three safety modes. I too might have been reluctant to accept these features, but no longer. I belive Mr. Forbes, in engineering this rifle style, forgot more about rifles than I ever knew. I just look at the growing collection of target cards knowing I did nothing to the rifle other than to reload for it and shoot it.

Recoil? Battue, I am holding the forend and grip with a firm amount of pressure. The rifle is set firmly into my shoulder. The recoil comes right back into the shoulder and very tolerable. The pad is thick and of high quality. As I typed before, other than the more closed grip profile (Forbes), I can't tell the difference between it and the Montana.

I wish somone made a 8 power though. Call Leupold, 99% sure they started producing their 8x again starting in the last year or so. UN-cataloged item though

I've always loved a 180 Accubond in the -06. One mean "pill" at 2750 - 2800fps. Extremely partition like results. Man I'd be damn happy with those groups and run with that 180!!! If it ain't broke don't fix it. Kinda jealous of that Accubond load. Ran one in a 180AB in a #1 for prolly 10 yrs. Never caught one.

BW. Please don't post those pics of itty bitty groups anymore. It makes sellers remorse all the worse. By the way. That top one like the 168's if you ever get tired of the 150's
