Have you considered the retro look?

Here's my last two Mauser projects:

Here is my son's Turk. Standard Bob, trimmed back Tupperware backed w/ flip-flop, buehler safety, forged and flattened (ala FN) knob. Vertical Leupold Rifleman rings & Weaver K3:

[Linked Image]

It's in Mike McCabe's capable hands currently having a Chapman-style safety, and then it's off to my local 'smith for a Ruger-style Brownell knob. I picked up an M8 4x that's going into Burris Sig Zees.

Gonna get it all bead blasted & parkerized for durability.

Stock is in the works awaiting his arrival at "full grown" status. Don't know if he'll follow his old man in disdain of synthetic or go for its utility. We shall see, but I bet by then he'll already have dropped several big game animals!

What I have going would not interest you as I am just mucking about with Brno's...Butch is the man with taste and patience.

These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

Here's the last one I did. I need to get some new pics now that I conned a friend into checkering it and I put the scope on it.

Interesting bottom metal, may I ask who made/makes this and is it steel or some alloy?

I love re-worked, very basic and simple Mauser 98 types, old FNs, Husqies, good examples of military actions and, especially, the superb Brno 21/22 and ZG actions. I like these as basic as possible, meticulous workmanship and slightly under "average" weight for the chambering, as in my just over 7 lb. full custom HVA in .280 Rem.

You have a couple of really nice rifles there, good luck hunting with them!

PS: WHAT is that neat little "peep" sight on the rear mount base of the top rifle? I like that sort of setup VERY much.

That top rifle is lovely. What brand front sight? What stock? Thanks for sharing.

Bottom metal on the cheap gun was one I pickup up for dirt cheap off of ebay because the floorplate was missing. I just made a replacement, it is a lightweight alloy. I used alum to make the plate. The peep on the top one is a ghost ring made by williams gun sight in town here and I made the base to fit the 7/16" dovetails on the bases I made for some PME ring I got. Funny the bases started out to be for talleys and I make a wrong cut so I recut them and got a set of ring from Kobe. Sometimes projects change midstream and you need to just go with it.

I just started a Mauser project, it's going to be a light weight (hopefully) 7x57. The donor was a mismatched 1908 Brazilian with a bad bore.

Ray, I never weighted it but it is light. 30-06 build on a recarberized 1909 action. Stock was one I heavily reworked from Richards. Here it is with the scope and checkered. Last pic is one of the stock when I first started with it.

Again, that is a fine, fine looking rig. I've always wondered about Richards stocks. Looks like you're pretty handy. I'm working over a Boyds Classic walnut this morning myself.

Here is a link to my Zastava .25-06 I built a few years back.

New Speed Goat Rifle

Still have to give serious thanks to Karnis for helping me complete the rifle.
