I love my handi .223 I've put about 40 rounds thru mine. Who knows how many it's seen in its life though, mines a '93

Is it a standard contour?
or heavy barrel?

I dont' have a .223 barrel yet,
but have or have had several Handi-Rifles and barrels.

Was especially fond of my 26inch .280 barrel,
a .357 Maximum barrel I had,
and a .218 Bee I'm still getting familiar with!

Good luck with your Handi .223. I recently sold my standard contour barrel .223 and had a Superlight factory fit. It shoots great. There was nothing wrong with the standard, I just wanted something lighter. I put it on a camo synthetic stock set. I have fourteen Handis and they all shoot. One didn't, a .22-250. Just wouldn't group for beans. It was bought used from an individual. I sent it back to H&R. It was home in two weeks with a brand new barrel and a trigger job. No charge. It climbed out of the box driving tacks.

If you have a handy rifle shooting into 2.5" at 300yds. You better keep it.
I have been shooting 45-70 for some time and never see on shoot that good a 100yds.

Dwayne, click on the link I gave above and prowl around. You'll find lots of sub-MOA Handi .45-70s. My .45-70 is not alone. My Handi 7mm-08 and .243 do the same.

I have 4 handi rifles rite now and all of them will hold great groups at 100 yards. My .45-70 is my favorite handi and I can hit a quarter everytime at 100 yards. With my .223 on the bench it will shoot 3 holes touching everytime. My .243 super light holds about a 1.5 inch group at 200 yards with factory win silver box ammo. I also have a .22 mag but haven't got a chance to shoot it enough to know how tight I can get a group from it.

H&R rifles a deal you can't beat my frist a .357 mag with a 20gage tube for 110.00 .my second .308 newer module plastic tumbhole stock heavey barrel and a nice scope for the money you have to put out is small for how good that shoot

I am looking for an additional barrel for mine. I just picked up a 450 Marlin to go with the factory 243, I am considering a 30-06 myself or maybe a 308. I am really leaning '06.

I had an '06 Handi. Nothing wrong with it at all. I sold it only because I'm a .308 Family man. Among others, I have Handis in .243, 7mm-08,.308 and .358. I like the .308s because they're short, accurate and easy to load and re-form brass from caliber to caliber within the family. My '06 couldn't equal the accuracy I get from the .308s. It was 1.5 or so at 100. The .308s tighten that up to one inch or less with a lot more comfort.

nhFrank, You stole that Combo. Great deal. Hop over to GBO and read and consider reaming that .357 to Maximum. It'll improve accuracy with .38s and mags and give you lots more options for about the same price of a box of cartridges.

Can maximum brass be easy to come by I have thought about doing that a few years back

They are a seasonal run. If you are not on top of it when they are produced, you may not find any.

Even if you don't find any for a time, you can still shoot .38ss, mags and .360s. I haven't had a problem finding brass.

Going off track a little what about reboring the .357 to a 35 Remington .l rember loading .357 in 35 rem cases?

Rather than rebore a .357 Handi to .35 Remington, which is a factory offering, do as I did. I reamed one to .356 Winchester which has the rim cut for the rimmed case. With the extractor or ejector changed to a .30-30 and slightly modified, the rifle handles both .356 Winchester and .358 Win. The .356 head spaces on the rim and the .358 on the shoulder. Both extract/eject flawlessly. Both have a lot more whack than the .35. An added bonus is that in the Handi, the .356 can be loaded to .358 levels.

Another thing to look at is the .357 Maximum will duplicate .35 Rem. performance. I'm shooting the Hornady 180 gr. SSP at 2150 fps. which is top end .35 Rem. You can't shoot .38s, .357s or .360s out of a .35, but you sure can out of a Handi Maxi.

So, for me, I have three Maxis and one .356/.358.
