...in 250-3000? From the pictures, it appears to have sling swivel studs, but no other holes. It doesn't have a peep sight; just factory sights on the barrel. It appears to have most of the original blueing, and the wood looks to be very nice.

I don't see enough of these sell to extablish a value. I'm hoping some of you can help.

Anything in particular I need to be aware of when looking at this rifle in person?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

"nice" probably starts at $700, "real nice" more like $1200. Watch for cracks in the stock, particularly on four digit serials - also look for broken trigger guards.

All depends on what the definition of "nice" is.

Plus you pay a premium for the 250. 1200 and up is about right for a what I would call "nice".

Thanks guys! Sounds like it would be worth taking a look at for $575 then, huh? It is a four digit serial number.

. I missed out on a Mdl.20, 30-06, 5 digit, nice, last Feb.
. Grandson who never calls me, called for info on a Rem.870 or Moss 500, 12 ga., new, which one is better? Get the Moss.
. Went back & a guy already bought it $300. He said if I would of told him to wait a bit he would have.
. My fault, left no instructions. Grand never let me know which one he bought, if any. One sided kids, THEIR WAY !!!

Wouldn't have been a Model 20 in 30-06, they were only offered in 250-3000 and 300 Savage. Maybe a Model 45.

. You are RIGHT, RIGHT ON! Boy, my age & selective memory is going. It was a Mdl. 45. Was thinking of a 20 in .300 another guy showed me around the same time. .That was a decent one too.

The early 45's look enough like a 1920 to forgive a guy for the confusion. grin

Well, it wasn't quite the gem the seller claimed. The stock had been refinished, a crack repaired in the wrist area, and not a lot of blueing left on the floorplate. I did get him down to $500, and brought it home anyway. Man they feel great and point like your finger. I'm surprised they weren't better sellers.

I have one in 300 has two stage trigger but I don't think it's bad. I'm also surprised they weren't better sellers.

Yeah. I was surprised to find a two stage trigger, but once the pretravel is taken up, it really isn't bad at all; especially if you are acclimated to shooting mil-surp rifles.

Precisely why they made them like that, IMO. Remember, Savage was pandering to the crowd of newly minted rifleman in the form of a few million recently discharged WWI vets, who trained/fought with '03 Springfields/1917 Enfields/Lee-Enfields/etc. all of which utilized the 2-stage pull. It was (is) a proven design for idiot-proof safety for horny handed guys running around with loaded rifles in extreme environments. The 2-stage pull provides a heckuva lot more sear engagement than the sporting triggers we are all familiar with. Once one acclimates oneself to it, it becomes second nature to take up the the 'first pull' automatically (which takes up about 90% of the sear engagement), then knuckle down for the trigger pulling regimen associated with accurate shooting that is the 'second pull'. I for one rather like the 1920 trigger, but then again I have spent nigh on 45 years shooting Krags, Springfields, Mausers, ad nauseum that have two stage triggers.

My only beef with the Savage M1920 system is that they made the trigger do double duty as the bolt release too. It works, as such, but does nothing for the quality of the trigger pull in general after years and years of the bolt banging back against it.
