Sounds pretty normal. Have you ever had a dog wreck stuff? Yeah, usually shoes or maybe a nice soft seat off an ATV or something similar right? Ever had a dog destroy a riding lawn mower? Gus was after a wood chuck inside our storage shed this morning, the chuck was under the deck or possibly under the hood of the mower. (Gus is a black lab) Well Gus ripped the hood apart on the mower, heavy molded plastic hood with the air duct for the air cooled engine.. So, the old JD will be retired to deer camp and I'm looking for a replacement mower for home. We were going to eventually upgrade mowers at home and retire this one to deer camp... but not just yet. Thanks Gus, A-hole. 'Ol Gus probably just did you a huge favor Dave. He just wants you to have a zero turn. Once you get one of them (like a Hustler FasTrak) or something similar, you will be cookin that dog New York Strips for supper!

There is a rental house, on the neibours 1/4 section.
Neibours have 4 dogs.
Last spring, new tennants move into the rental & park their lovely new car out front.
Dogs chase a ground hog outta the field & it runs up into the engine compartment of said new vehicle.
Outcome was an insurance claim for upwards of $5k for wiring harnesses & a new paint job.
The couple moved out of the rental 1 month later !

From the look of the damage, I think it was a chipmunk that incited the riot, crawled in under the hood and the dogs went in after him.
Just a guess - but I have dogs, JD mower, chucks and chippies too.

I've seen dogs do some strange things, but nothing like that. My son's Visula likes to eat rose bushes.

I think he just freed up the air intake for you. Now you can mow the yard in half the time.

Sent an email the insurance company.
Got a reply back asking if I meant "act of god" rather than the suspected typo "act of dog"
Reply, "no typo.... act of dog is correct."
No response.....

Sooooooooo, how did the dog ribs taste on the smoker? I didn't think ol Gus could move fast enough for that kind of damage. At last it weren't a sknunk!

Turns out it wasn't a chuck either.
It was a weasel.

LOL I've never seen a weasel do that much damage! all kidding aside that's crazy damage.
the other day I had my 2 dogs outside and we had a little thunderhead blow through, nothing much. but it freaked out Bailey and she climbed up on her carry kennel and broke out the window and shredded the screen on my bedroom window. I know what you're feeling dave when you look at the damage and the dog and say "What the ____ were you thinking!?"

I had that same lawnmower and I wanted to do the same damage that Gus did to it. It wasn't my favorite, it gave me fits at times. My Daisy dog (lab) used to freak out during storms too. She's mostly just hide for about a day, no screen ripping. She did chew through metal fence ties to escape from a kennel once though. I still don't know how she did that?

Never underestimate the ability of an adrenaline filled lab to do damage. When I had the tool and die shop in Saginaw I always had a lab for a shop dog. One night one of the local perps of African heritage broke in the back door and Killer chewed and clawed his way thru 3/4" of drywall to get him. He was found treed the next morning in the steel rack with Killer camped out below smiling happily and wagging his tail. In 25yrs that was a close as we had to a breakin when no one was there.
We eat organic in our house, we just have to shoot and gut it first.....
