Every 99 has a story and unfortunately most of them are lost to history.
Knowing the history of a 99 and the men that carried them makes them an even greater treasure IMO.

Thanks for sharing the story. If a collector would turn his nose at this rifle they must not collect rifles to use! I think collecting non using rifles kind of defeats the purpose... I know the ones I have I have stored at a buddies house ..... I often wonder what is the point?

Purchased three boxes of 150 grain core lokt this morning and hit the range. First rodeo with the these mounts for windage. The single post reticle was easy enough.
Once I was on zero I manage to print a respecable group at 75 yards.
After zero, I took her for a walk looking for chucks, but the skeeters got too bad.

You oughta handload for that puppy! Some 130 grain Hornadys would do a number on chucks!!

Its the diametre of the objective i'm interested in, it just slides into that tube. Yoy should be able to get the measurement just behind the tube.

The diamitre of the Leupold Mountaineer is 1.350" approx 34mm. So this one is a good bit bigger
I had been chasing a Mountaineer for some time, a member of the fire sold me one at a fair price, deceased estate I believe of his uncle. Scope looked good until I started to adjust, the a bow in the verical cross hair appeared, also could'nt get enough elevation. I believe the seller sold and described the scope in good faith, so I have no issues
Conracted Leupold and they have told me to send it over, it went out today. I wonder if I would need to shim the fron or rear to get more elevation, I think the rear.
Sorry to hi jack, been really a good boy lately LOL Anyway looks like your scope has the same objective as the old leupy

I'm unsure if I'll shoot her enough to justify reloading, but $40 a box for core lokts is enough to make me re-think my original plan. I bet a Sierra GK would be magic too.

My deer load for my 1953 EG in .300 Savage is: 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullet 40.8 grains (.1 of a grain under the listed "max" load) H4895 Standard Winchester large rifle primer Remington cartridge cases Round over-all length = 2.60 inches Chronographed muzzle velocity = 2635 fps � 3 fps (+1 fps/-2 fps) Accuracy = approx. 1" at 100 yards Sighted in 2.75 inches high @ 100 yards yields a point-blank range of 250 yards wherein the bullet does not rise or fall more than 3.00 inches above or below the line-of-sight. I.E., you can hold "dead-on" the point-of-impact you wish from the muzzle out to 250 yards and, with accurate shooting, easily hit within the approximate 9-inch "kill zone" of a whitetail deer. If you don't have the use of a 100 yard range, I've found that centering 3 shots in the X-ring @ 25 yards yields a point-blank-range of 240 yards. I should have a box of 130TSX lating around too. My personal range is 250 and a club member where I can get to 400.

That scope is a German scope, a Hensoldt. A top of the line scope in it's day. More or less there with the Ziess.

That's a great story. Your friend did you a real nice thing. Had coffee with him this morning and showed him the target. I mentioned the value of the mounts and he smiled and said he knew. My range is on my parents property near his house. He said he took pleasure hearing me shooting it yesterday afternoon. He never shot it.

The 110 grain Speers with the big HP bowl the chucks over pretty good. More of a walking around deal with me rather than snipin' them. Hilly country though. May not apply to your situation.
