I am wishing to begin loading for a 280 ai and am using:
Nosler formed brass Hornady 162 A-max RL-22 powder
I have federal 210'a and 215's and am wondering if I should be using the standard or magnum primers to light the RL-22.
Thanks all

I use that powder also in mine. I just use the standard CCI primers....either large rifle or benchrest. Never had a problem, and have heard magnums can cause issues in standard cases, such as pressure spikes.

I run the Federal 215 Match primer in my .280AI and have always had great results and no problems.

If you have any 7828 or H1000 on-hand, give them a try, they both shoot well with 160 range bullets in mine. I'm gonna try Retumbo next, and I'll bet it's good too.

I've been shooting 168 Bergers and the groups really tightened up at the upper end of the recommended charge weights.

Yes, both 7828 and H1000.

Great speed and accuracy with RL22 and win large rifle or 210's. I have tried the 215's but didn't see any improvement. Not saying you wouldn't though. Experimentation- fun and frustration at the same time.

I have a buddy that we reload his 280AI for and use 140 Accubonds and RL22 with WLR primers, but going to try WLRM primers to see if we can get more gas and tighter groups. Next he wants to try the 168 VLD's and see how they do. I have read good things about using magnum primers in the 280AI.

I use both 210's and and WLR's in my AI with RL powder. Of the two, I think the WLR maybe a little hotter. Never found the need to use a mag cap. YMMV, BD

I worked up two loads for my 280AI using IMR-7828 and R-17 using Fed 210M/215M primers. I settle on R-17 with Fed 215M primers

Yep, 210's. Save the 215's for your ball powder loads.

I never noticed a change in accuracy using the Fed 215M about the only thing I gained was lower ES and I was mid 3000fps with 160gr AB. Well good luck
