I have an HVA model 1640 with the small tab on the left side to release the bolt. Someone here posted a couple of years ago about a slick way to do away with this protruding tab. I presume that part of the receiver would then be covered by the new stock. Any information or thoughts on this would be appreciated. There seems to be very little information about smithing on these actions.

I have seen the tab modified by grinding away the protruding section. The hole on the side of the action is then welded up and ground and polished to match. To remove the bolt you then just push on the ejector from inside the action which is also the bolt stop.
