My standard is Wegmans Lump charcoal and it's very good, burns evenly,a good distribution of lump sizes and fairly priced Green Egg lump is very good but costly so I only used the initial bag I got with my BGE
The worst is Cowboy brand, holy crap I actually have sticks and whole pieces of log in the bag. I picked up a 20 lb bag at Lowes on sale for $7.99, now I know why it was so cheap. Just fired up there BGE and put 2 racks of ribs on so I'll see how it actually burns

There are a bunch of good ones out there, but depending on your location they might not be available. My favorite brands in order are: 1. The Good One 2. Ozark Oak 3. Fire King 4. Big Green Egg 5. Royal Oak Steak House (Green Bag) Your best bet is find what is available in your area and go to The Naked Whiz site and read his lump charcoal reviews. Naked Whiz Database. Mike

Green egg lump is/made by Royal Oak. I buy 17.5 lb bags for 11.99. Wal Mart carries 8.8 lb bags for 7 bucks? Usuall seasonal

BGE is good and the Royal Oak is excellent too since it's the same.

At half the price of BGE -- Royal Oak works just fine for me. But I do buy BGE whenever possible. Cowboy is junk. I could have redone my man cave with all the wood floor pieces in Cowboy. Bunch of rocks as well. I figure for weight.
Wegmans is great!
Sure wished Wicked Good Competition was still on the market. That stuff rocked.
Mike, I've not tried any of the first 3 on your list.

Thanks brother! Those look great. I don't foil them anymore unless I am in a hurry, which is never a good thing with ribs. Hey Mike. Dig the plate!

Me too. I've tried Royal Oak on my el cheapo stamped sheet metal grill, and it doesn't seem to burn as hot. I'm not a specialist though like all you BGE people.

I like and use Kingsford in my webers and stick burner.
Just that lump burns much better in the ceramic cookers.

I run (*slum*) Kingsford in both of my Webers. Occasionally I'll add some wood chips for a little bit more smokey flavor.
