Having read some impressive penetration tests with the heavier nosler ballistic tips, and hearing how they've beefed up the jackets, I am wondering if a 150 gr, 30 calliber will hold up at 3200-3300 muzzle velocity on white tail deer. My short mag really likes them...
What say you?

Have shot several whitetail and mule deer with 150BTs in 300WSM doing 3250fps. Most were DRT, the bullet tends to fragment quite a bit so not the best for meat conservation or shoulder shots. I certainly wouldn't use them on elk.

Why not try 150 gr Barnes TTSX?

Main reason being the ballistic tips are cheaper and i know my rifle likes them.

150grs?? That's what I use in my .300 Savage.

My 300 WSM (Remington) really likes the Winchester 150 XP3's. I haven't killed any game with it yet but I'm pretty sure it's going to be lights out!

I used them in a 300 WSM for a season. I didn't shoot a deer with it but I did shoot a couple of coyotes and the results were explosive.

I load 150gr Ballistic Silvertips for a hunting partner.
He has used them on antelope, deer and elk with no problems.

They would not be my first choice, but I cannot argue with the results I have seen first hand while out hunting.

I ran the old green/red box 150's at close to 3,400fps in a 300WM. Bad news on anything hit in the boiler room, as most stuff was effectively "electrocuted" on the spot. Even so, penetration wasn't always through-and-through and meat damage was considerable. I also shot a newer version (2006 or so) at close to 3,200fps in a 300SAUM. It worked just fine on whitetails and generally exited. Quite a few were dumped on the spot, especially if catching a shoulder. I'd not expect regular exits on hard-quartering shots when impact velocity is above 2,800fps or so, but the 150's will certainly kill stuff.

Same situation...I have a friend who runs that 150gr Ballistic Silvertip out of his 300 Win. Mag. mostly because his rifle loves that bullet, but it has dropped some good animals for him including one of the biggest bodied mule deer I've ever seen (or had the displeasure of dragging of a mountain). This guy is very experienced and even though he has not carried that combo for elk, he says he would have no issues doing so.

I was only able to push 155 Scenar's to 3075 with H4350 last weekend, I was getting flattened primers and some bolt lift resistance.

Rather, Have shot these for years out of my old .300 Win. Killed everything from coyotes to elk..A lung shot is sure death if the animal is broadside..Not my first pick for elk, but it has killed maybe half a dozen for me from about 125 yards to just over 400..For deer it is sudden death..In 91 I had a bighorn sheep permit..Shot in 3" high at 100, it was less than 2 feet low at 500..I needed every inch when the time came to take a shot at my ram..As stated it will ruin some meat, but it is asure killer on light game..

I shot them for years in an 06 in the deep woods on whitetails with nothing but quick death. They are quite destructive on meat if you get into the shoulder.

Yes - or at least 300 saum. They work great

I don't use ballistic tip bullets at these velocity's preferring a more substantially constructed bullet like a TSX or Accubond bullet...................Hb

Odd. I have run 150 Accubonds to 3250 fps with H4350 in my Sako 85 with 24" barrel.

I run 165's @ 3050 fps because that's how fast I want them to go.
