I picked this gun up from a member here about 7 months ago for a rebarrel project, but have since switched directions. It is a 98 Mauser with what was described to me as a Parker Hale stock and trigger. It has the side safety, and the trigger is adjustable and very nice. It is chambered in 25-06, but the gentleman told me it would need rebarreled. I haven't shot it, but plan on the barrel needing replaced. It is has a set of weaver bases. On the comb of the stock, there is a spot where the finish has worn off. No wood is removed there, just the finish. A very nice gun that would make a great project. $350 shipped to your FFL from an individual.

Did previous owner state why he felt the barrel was toast?

Thank you!

I have one of those triggers on my 257 AI and they are indeed very nice!

Great price on a rifle w/ a lot of potential!

I believe he said it shot decent, but his gunsmith looked at the bore and that it was about ready to be replaced.

Thanks efw. This is the nicest trigger I have ever felt on a Mauser. It is adjustable, but is currently set at like 24 ounces and breaks like glass. Whoever gets it will be happy.

Why would a gunsmith fishing for work lie?

He said it had a lot of throat wear. I had no intentions of keeping it a 25-06 so I haven't shot it. I just wanted to be as upfront as possible. It may shoot just fine, but I wanted the buyer to consider it needing a rebarrel.

Got it yesterday and scrounged a crossbolt cap and snugged the crossbolt and action on down into the stock, fire lapped it 5 shots, cleaned it up, and shot these groups at 100 yds in a L to R breeze with 100gr Speer BTSP and 51gr IMR 4350 over CCI 250 primers.

I won't be sending the rifle back. laugh wink
