Picked up a clean #3 today in .22 Hornet. Will probably shoot it for a while as a Hornet but could anyone advise if they know of a smith who dose reboring of #3s to a pistol caliber... Have always wanted a #1 in .41 Magnum and was thinking the #3 would be a good doner...

Thanks...Bob

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

Dan rebored a C. Sharps 1885 high wall for me, .30-40 up to .50-110. Good work and a nice guy to talk to.

RJM,

I have a .41 mag #1 but it was a rebarrel on a 1H so it started with a heavier barrel than the #3 you have. I bought it used agaisnt the day when some of the good deer areas close by switch to shotgun/pistol caliber only. It shoots nice groups but I have had no chance to hunt with it yet. I have no doubt it will tip over our small bodied deer.

Dan does nice work.

I can also recommend Al Siegrist in Whitmore MI. He has done around a dozen rebores for me including a lot of #1s. Off hand, I can remember #1 jobs he did in 6.5x55, 300 H&H, .338-06, .338 Federal, .35 Whelen, and 9.3x62. All turned out very satisfactorily in terms of accuracy and finish. Modest cost and fairly fast turnaround too.

Good luck,

Wow!!! Thanks for all the tips guys!!

1B...what configuration did you go with on your barrel when you rebarreled? What length and twist did you get? A pic would be great...

I have four Marlin carbines in .41 plus a 16.5" TC barrel..but this #3 just handles so nice...

I have three rebores by Cliff LaBounty (retired and sold to Jim Dubell of Clearwater) and two by Al Siegrist and can recommend them both. Lead time can be rather long. I read good things about JES and lead times seem to be rather short with good pricing too. Clearwater will be the most expensive of the three I am sure.

RJM,

It has a 1H -- .45-70 -- profile. I'll shoot you a pict the next ime I open the safe.

I had oneof those Marlins too. Sweet rifle but I sold off most of my non-single shots.

Some folks are hesitant about reboring a rifle, most of which is their lack of knowledge or experience with a rifle that has been rebored...and certainly no offense meant to anyone, k'. We don't know what we don't know, and we don't know it all!

In '82 had 2 Ruger #3 .223's rebored n' chambered to .257 Roberts (PO Ackley's shop). VERY pleased with the way they perform. In 2005 had Dan Pederson/Cutrifle rebore a #3 from .223 to .308 WCF, with 1-11" twist. I'm still impressed with how accurate that #3 is!

There are several places out there that are capable of doing a fine quality rebore. Sounds like your 'affair' with the .41 magnum deserves having a #3 rebored in that chamber. Enjoy and let us know how it all comes out. regards

Do good out there...
