Was wondering what would be the best 7mm mag ammo for whitetails? Most shots will be between 25 to 100yds, but some could be out to 300. Looking for something that won't fragment, but will penetrate and leave a nice exit wound. Was thinking about accubonds, tsx, or ttsx. What's your recommendation? I do not reload.

When I hunted with one up in northern MN I used 175gr RN's. All my hunting was still hunting/stalking/tracking and didn't have the opertunity to wait for nice broadside shots. The 175's worked well as did the 220 RN's in my 30-06 and 180 RN's in my 300 Sav.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

150 gr Federal Fusion should do the trick for you, I been collecting my venison with them for the last 7 seasons.

I've use Hornady 162 at 100 feet zero expansion. They way over penitrate. Then you have to track them and shoot them again with the load below.

When I use Hornady 139's at 3350 fps bang flop.

Hornady Custom line of ammo, 154g Sp

Federal Premium 160g Sierra BTSP

Federal Premium 140g Partition

Std Rem 150g Core loct's kill extremely well

If you like a blood trail, then the triple shocks have not left much blood on the ground, but the deer's innards are soup.

Why bother? You're shooting at Whitetails at 100 yards or under. Use a 30-30 for Christ sake. It ain't rocket science. You don't need a mag to kill whitetails at that range. If you use a 30-30 vs. a 7mm Mag you'll appreciate that you have a lot less bloodshot meat.

Hello, he also said some shots could be out to 300 yds.

Everyone knows you don't need a 7 mag at 100 yds.

Maybe he doesn't have or want a 30-30.

Thanks "southtexas" well said! I hunt on pipelines and just so happen that the deer I shot were under 100yds. That don't mean the next 10 won't be at 300yds. So I don't think I need a 30-30.

Could you post pics of your groups at 300 yards with your 30-30?

Nope. Never took pics. Groups were between 9 and 12 inches. Still good enough to take down a whitetail. If you can't shoot the gun won't make you a better hunter.
