Hard to beat a 6.5, except for the fact that they wear out so darn quick!

I expect my .260 to last my lifetime out- but then I'm pushing 65, and only use it to kill meat with. So far, it only has a few hundred rounds thru it. I eat a lot of meat - it just takes me awhile to gum it.... I'm working up a heavy bbl '06 rebarreled from rusted out (not by me!) .270 for caribou hunting off the ATV or sno-go. Hell, I don't have to carry the thing....

I think Bob might have a heart attack if someone doesn't mention the Mashburn soon Jordan woe is me! Lots of us like that sort of 7mm performance and we just go about different ways to arrive at about the same place. Folks at Brux told me they cut a lot of barrels in 6mm and 6.5.....so I had to stand in line and wait for a new 270 tube.

Those are all a dime a dozen as owners line up to trade for a 270 Winchester! Vern is closest to the truth.....all the exotic cartridges I see mentioned so far don't amount to very much in volume sales, at least for hunting. We are nut jobs on here, and mostly shoot very unpopular cartridges.

part of it is generation gap ....as a kid I woulld check out all the sport shops and hardware stores to admire the guns.....you couldn't buy a 6.5 anything unless someone had brought a Jap model back from the war. Anything in 8mm was from the other battle front. I don't recall seeing a 7mm either. So I bought what Jack O'Connor advised and they still work just fine.

It was the WSM's for me as I had most of the standard and old magnums. So I 'had' to get a couple of them. The last rifle I got is a 300 Win. Mag. which kicks. I don't need that power nor do I want to endure it's recoil. I tried to get it going with 150's however it's shooting 168's much better. So it goes. It's summer now. Lot's of shooting! It's the rifle at the bottom of the picture.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

......part of it is generation gap .......... So I bought what Jack O'Connor advised and they still work just fine. After tap dancing with a lot of cartridges I have noticed the same things... Still, there is new stuff that interests me, among them, the 6XC,the 6.5/284,the 6.5 Creedmoor. We for sure need a new, popular, short action 6mm.That damned 243 has to go... In 7mm and 30 caliber, forget it ....we have twisted/wildcatted, and standardized those two calibers every which way but loose to the point we are re-inventing/recycling cartridges and case capacities and calling them "NEW"...which they aren't. We might as well say that from the standpoint of functioning through a magazine-fed bolt action rifle, we have had what we needed or use today since we had the 30 Newton, the Holland belted cases, the 308,the 30/06,the 404 Jeffrey, the 8x57,the 250 Savage, the 222....even the WSM's.....It was all over, all done by the 1950's/early 60's, at the latest. About everything we shoot and hunt with today is somehow based on those basic designs. There may be some others I forgot. If there's been a major advance in anything, it's bullets and propellants. New cartridges? I suppose some of them are new if we don't know much about what came before, but we need something to talk about, build rifles for, and the gun companies need to sell rifles and convince us somehow that we are Neanderthal throwbacks if we shoot anything as mundane as a 30/06 or 7x57.... besides we need to have some fun, which is what it's all about anyway.

if you mean the latest fad, it would have to be .22 cal, as in .223 out of an ar. if one discounts the ar popularity after the school shooting, then i'd say no fad exists. all one need do is peruse their local gun shop or wmt. for rifles/calibers. i have no doubt the 30 cal (30-06 to be specific) still leads the pack, followed by others like 270 win, 308, 243, etc.
as i age, my desire for more and different rifles has lessened. however, it is always good to see new stuff available to the public, and even better when folks are buying them and shooting.

I live 25s and want a 250 savage so bad it's not even funny but honestly a 243 should do the same thing right? And ammo and components are so much easier to come by. But there's something so cool about the 250
I almost turned my 204 into. 25/204 but traded if for. 22-250 that may meet a similar fate and become a 250-3000
What is 7LRM?

.224's, 6's, 6.5's, 7's, and .338's seem to get a lot of play.
