Tell me about HSM ammo. Are they a any good? How do they compare to Federal, Winchester & other ammo companies?

A buddy of mine bought a box for his 7 mag and I asked him if i could look em over a bit. I checked run out over an rcbs gauge and it was like most factory ammo....pretty equal amounts from .002-.006. They were loaded w/168 bergers.
I pulled a couple of bullets cause they weren't crimped and checked the powder..they used a ball powder and it varied by as much as .6 grains.
I pulled them all ....averaged the powder charge and slid them back together w/ different seating depths trying to find a sweet spot. Neck tension remained real decent putting em back together w/o resizing. Can't remember speed over the chrono but remember they were fast for 168s.
Bottom line was his gun didn't like any of my "adjustments" but then it was a problematic gun and went back to the builder and came back with a better attitude.

The .30-06 stuff shoots almost as well in my NULA as my handloads with Bergers--VERY well.

I did some real good mid/long range shooting years ago with .308 & 7mm mag ammo loaded by HSM.

Really had no complaints at all about the ammo. Tight groups, excellent consistency.

My experence was with their plinkers ( blems) very accurate in my Rem 700 7mm mag. Bought some prior to buying dies for the 7mm rem. Not a gunwriter but my experence.

I have shot some HSM ammo loaded with Berger VLDs in both my 7 mag. and .30-06. In my 7 mag, I was able to get 3/4" groupings at 100 yards consistently. In my .30-06, I was lucky to get 2" groups at 100 yards. I ended up throwing that box of ammo away because about every other round was seated too long and I could not close my bolt.
