Could be nice stuff but I'd think if the description is accurate that the cartridges would be more collectable than shooters and would be better off in a display once acquired. JMOOMV. Hey, what do I know!

Without the box, that stuff is shooting ammo as far as I'm concerned. Of course, since I got out of collecting ammo (except vintage .22's), pretty much all vintage ammo is shooting ammo to me, or trade bait for other stuff. For example, I recently bought an unopened box of Griffin&Howe .22-3000 Lovell brass- definitely in the 'collector's' realm, made circa WWII. I promptly broke the seal, annealed the necks, loaded them up, and fireformed them into .22 Maximum Lovells for my pre-war Lovell Krag. I'd rather hear that old single shot Krag sing than look at a box of collectible brass sitting in a display.

I've had just enough beers to not care if I look stupid so... When did Savage chamber a 99 in 32 Winchester Special? Is this the same as 32-40?

No, not the same.
Savage made 35 Rem ammo too, although they never chambered a rifle in 35 Rem or 32 Win spec.

Well good, that was the thrust of this thread was that the seller goes on about Savage chambering the 1899 and 99 for the 32 Winchester Special. Nobody noticed it so I thought I must be going crazy!

After looking more closely at the pics I'll have to amend my previous comments given that several of the cartridges show signs of having been spun while someone was holding steel wool around them. Maybe I'm seeing things but.... Signs of corrosion removed with steel wool also. Makes me doubt if those rounds are even shooters.

. . Hey 99 Guy: . . Savage did make 99's in 35 Rem., special order. I Was offered one back in mid 80's that some prince from India (?) ordered. But price $3 Thou. chilled my interest, Quick! . . Another, garage mechanic/wrecker hauler told me he took one in for payment on work done, think a $30. bills worth. Didn't mean anything to him, so just sold it some time later $60-65.. He also said at that time he had a bolt Win.70, in 35 Rem. . . A farmer who had a 'Garbage Sale' 20 yrs ago said he had a 99 .32 spl, wouldn't sell. Has 3 sons, 4 grandsons, & 2 greats. Will go to them. Didn't see this one either. . ... 99 LL ... .

Hey, I've seen an A engraved 32 Winchester Special.
Doesn't take much to rechamber one from a 32-40.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

Here's a list of all the calibers in which Savage supposedly made the Model 99. Don't ask me where I got this... I can't remember. Savage 99 Calibers .22 HP .22-250 .243 .25-35 .250-3000 7mm-08 .284 Win. .30-30 .303 Savage .300 Savage .308 .32-40 .358 .375 .38-55
It's smart to hang around old guys 'cause they know lotsa stuff...

Yes, the engraving was done at the factory. The 32 Win? No. rechambered from 32-40.

Still a factory engraved rifle. Someone somewhere will want it. Question is how much he/she wants it.
