I'm wanting a Grendel or lbc. I have a lower, upper and most everything else just need a bolt and barrel. Where can I find them and what's a good way to go? I'd like to stay in the $300 or less range for the barrel but want decent accuracy. I'm thinking an 18" or 20".
Thanks, Bb

Black Hole Weaponry's barrels get good press. When and if they start chambering 243lbc I'll jump on one. Satern does Grendel barrels but they will be over your budget.

$300 or less and decent accuracy might be tricky unless you already have a gas block and tube. Since I'd imagine you're wanting long range decent accuracy with those choices.

I could be wrong but I believe in your price range you are going to have a hard time if at all finding a barrel and bolt for $300.
If I am not mistaken Black Hole sells barrels for $275? minus bolt.
I think you might be better off buying a complete upper, but that would also require a wait.
I would skip the 18" and go either 16" or 20" depending on you application.

18in mid-length gas system HBAR weight barrels frickin RULE for running and gunning. I wouldn't go smaller unless I planned to carry it more than shoot it.

I wouldn't think that running and gunning is what most grendel rounds are used for but I could be wrong.

I have 16" and 20" in grendel and the 16" is my favorite for all around use. If I am planning to only shoot LR then the 20". I have no problems with the 16" out to 900yards which is the longest range I have close to me. Next time I am up at my cabin I plan to see what the 16" can do past 900yards. I have no doubt it will shoot 1000 maybe even 1200.
You aren't really giving up anything ballistically from 16" to 18". But you get a good compact long range platform with the 16". If you want to get more out of it then 20"-22" makes sense.

I've yet to see anyone who runs and guns do so with an HBAR. I didn't even know anyone made an HBAR profile anymore. SPR in an 18" is as big as I'd go but only if I couldn't find a light weight profile. Light weights rule the running and gunning.

TWR I was going to go 18" SPR but the 16" light weight made more sense to me. I don't regret my choice.

I have both and only wish the LW was available when I bought the SPR.

Oh and if you do go 18", go with intermediate or rifle gas.
Mid length on an 18" is comparable to a carbine gassed 16" dwell time not pressure.

I wanted an 18" when I started shopping. Ended up with a 16" fluted from AA and like the feel of it. Haven't shot it yet as I just got the buffer and spring from BravoCo and now realized I am missing the back receiver plate and nut for the stock tube. Still won't be able to shoot it

I bought a 24in AR Stoner SS from MidwayUSA and had it cut down to 18in. Sign up for email alerts on the AR Stoner 18in barrel.

BHW has been doing 243LBC barrels for over two years. I have three of them. They are great way out yonder. The LBC family is one of the last I would pick for a run and gun. The 6.8 would be the biggest I would choose. I have shot a 6X45 for over two decades in 3Gun type matches. Full 20 heavy barrel. Greg

This outfit is selling BHW's in 18 or 20 264 lbc. Either standard or bull. I'm not familiar with BHW, but seems like some like them on here. Polygonal rifled, I believe. Kinda different. http://www.tacticalammunition.com/Rifle-Length-Barrels_c95.htmI'm needing one too.

TA and BHW work closely together. They even load the 6X6.8 commercially for the BHW wildcat. I know a bit about that as I was involved in doing the load development on it. BHW just moved their production facility to share building space with TA. There are several new offerings in the works there. More postings will follow as soon as I get the new chamberings in to test. Greg

Looking at Satern's website, I believe they would offer a bit more customization in barrel length and contour. They are also in Iowa, as am I. I believe I will bite the bullet and go with a Satern but not quite ready to pull the trigger yet. I've just started thinking about his again and must proceed slowly.

If I take this leap it'll be for a 243lbc. The 6mm is the best bullet size for that cartridge's case capacity, IMO.

Could be but I have a pile of brass, sies and bullets for the 264. Could be I just divest and forget about it.

Check out this company. http://ar15performance.com/I've got one of their 6.8 barrel/bolt combos and it's great! He also makes 264LBC barrels and bolts. Very good products at a decent price. But it looks like he's playing catchup like everyone else. I also have a BHW barrel in 308Win and it's good kit too. I'm sure their 264LBC is great too.
