Decide on your use hunting, target, tacticool, ect? The most common version that I see now is made after the M4 which is a short barrel, collapsible stock, flip up sights, light barrel, with a flat top.
The older version was a fixed stock, fixed sights, carry handle, with a 20 inch barrel.
Between these two version you can customize or choose about any configuration you would want, with almost endless customizing of every part with a wide array of scopes, red dots, lasers, ect.
I like the 16" for plinking, handy in tighter enclosures, and I can use it to hunt with in a pinch.

Bought a PSA carbine for $700 in December and am more than pleased. Dead reliable with anything it has been fed and throws junk Tula inside 1 1/2". I am as pleased with it as I am with my DD. No regrets.

Scored 4250 rounds of ammo, 4K of it .22LR from 8PM to 8AM. None of it was gouged, and most of it will go to my cousin and his kids.
I am still waiting for 6.5 Grendel uppers to drop back to pre-democraptastic levels. Had a line on one the day before SH, and the seller magically dissappeared.

Sure parts are avalible but quality major components are still a wait. Like I said upper receivers, lowers, and barrels aren't order and ship. Go to Seekins and see what isn't back ordered. I just found Seekins lowers in stock at two different online retailers last week, I'll try to find which sites they were. Almost ordered one but I'm holding out for AR10 parts now. 3 AR15's are enough for now, time for a 338 Federal AR10!

I finally got my 2 Seekins complete lowers a couple weeks ago, from my order last year. Going to try to build a couple for my boys but might sell them to help fund a hunt.

My regret was falling for the "magazine ban" fears and buying 10 Magpul Gen3's for $35/ea ($350)......ugh....now I walk into Academy and they are on the shelf back at the $16-$17 pre panic prices.

If you felt the need to have one, regardless of what the legislature may have done, then its not a regretable thing at all.
I suspect some states that banned them since.... yet allow grandfathered.. those folks are anything BUT regretting it right now... This^. Also Jeff, I'd question how many folks actually bought at those inflated prices. The ones that did have money and don't care that they paid a premium. At least they got one and my guess is that many who had wanted one for a long time and took the plunge were in no way disappointed when they shot it. A few guys bought up as much as they could probably and then shopped them around at gunshows, which is technically illegal. Some of these dudes may have gotten stuck with some high-dollar guns, but that's the way of commerce. Bottom-line is that I'm just glad I had all I needed before Sandy Hook and that I resisted the urge to add just one more I wanted. Looks like if I really want that one more it will come pretty cheap now. That's a good thing what with gas jumping around all the time and double what it's worth.

Was about to pick up a 6920 locally for $950 before the panic, waited and picked one up today for around $1100, locally. Prices are coming back, but all it will take is one incident and the prices may go back up. Now for finding some ammo......

In the last 3 weeks I have bought 2 brand new uppers and a brand new lower for screaming deals. Saw this coming, just like the 2009 panic. Saved my money through the panic as I was in NEED of nothing and now that the bottom has fallen out I am scooping up deals whenever possible.
I'm happy to have guessed the market correctly for once.
To those who feel they overpaid during the panic, there was no way to know for sure what was going to happen. I'd rather pay twice as much for somethig I need than never be able to get one at all. If it was your first AR purchase, at least you're in the game now. It's just money.
If 2nd amendment rights can be subject to licensing and fees, how was the poll tax unconstitutional?
