I've got the feevuh for a new 7-08. I'd consider a Rem 700 or SA Win 70 and rebarrel with a Brux.

JG if I were hot for a 7/08 today I would buy a Kimber Montana or 84M and be done with it...I simply would not spend the dough for a custom with that rifle out there and available today.

You won't find one any lighter, and they will shoot fine unless you get a real lemon.

What's wrong with this 7-08?

Well, the stock looks a bit odd to me, but I'm no expert on Sakos.

I agree with BobinNH, get a Kimber. I had a 7-08 Montana on order for a few months. Then I was in Houston last month so I went to Carter's Country and they had a NIB Montana on the rack. It was a 7-08! They had just got it in the day before so it went home with me.

Haven't got it to the range yet, but if it shoots as well as my 257 Roberts Montana I'll be happy.

What's a fair price for the 84M?

Well, I don't know how fair it is, but I paid full retail for it. These seem to be pretty rare in the 7-08 for some reason. I had one on order for a number of months and the salesman at the store looked at their invoice and it took 8 months for them to get one.

It was new and my local dealer has closed up shop so my days of good deals are over.

My 257 I had ordered and waited for it and paid about $200 under retail or about $1150 for it.

I'm saving my gun money for a Forbes 20B in stainless. I think 7mm-08 would be perfect. Likely more accurate than a Montana but possibly even more rare and difficult to obtain.
