Anybody have any experience using these bullets?

I am considering the 460gr 50cal for my Savage 10MLII to use for elk in Colorado this fall. I am planning on using BH209 powder.

Thanks,
John

Slug your bore first. His conicals are usually sized for White rifles .503-.504 but he will size them to your needs. You might want yours a little tighter than slip fit if you are using BH209.

check out Thor bullets as well, a bit pricey but if you're going to CO as an out of stater, spend the $$ where it counts and buy a good quality bullet to use.

I've used No excuse 460 and 490 grs. in my .45. Accurate and priced right. Hard to go wrong though critters might prefer you use something else.

I love no excuse bullets, have killed deer and many hogs with them in my 50 and 54 cal T/C sidelocks, both the 460's in 50 cal and 535's in 54 are very accurate and easy loading.

I use them with 2 and 3 FG black powder, and will yet again this fall be looking to recover one from game, they cut a very nice hole going in with signs of slight expansion on exits.

I took this hog with a 495 gr. No Excuses bullet in a .50 caliber Knight KRB, using 90 grs of Goex FFG blackpowder. The bullet completely penetrated and exited the hog, which ran about 40 yards and piled up.

3 other guys on the hunt took similar hogs with their muzzleloaders, 2 using round balls in .50 and .54 caliber and one using a 250 gr saboted bullet of some sort. None of those projectiles exited on broadside shots similar to mine.

The No Excuses bullets load very easily (much easier than any sabot combo I have ever tried) and shoot accurately with charges heavy enough to bump them up to groove diameter when they are fired.

I tried loads of up to 110 grs of FFG Goex but settled on 90 grs. as a load that gave great accuracy without severe recoil.

HOWEVER, I would not be surprised if they did NOT work well with BH209 powder, because it requires a very tight seal of the bore (such as provided by a sabot) at the moment of ignition. The No Excuses bullets are slightly smaller than bore diameter to permit easy loading, and they expand to groove diameter and engage the rifling when the pressure hits them. I would expect hangfires or maybe even misfires using BH209.

No Excuses bullets are excellent for large game, but should be used with blackpowder or Pyrodex for best results. They would probably do well with 777 also.

Gonna try those in my American Knight 50. The bore is kinda a small 50 though.

Ive shot them custom sized to about .001 larger than land with BH209 and wool wads. Veggie wads worked too. No ignition problems with them but i haven't tried them in extreme cold. This was mostly in Knight rifles using a Lehigh conversion but the MLII breach pug works really well igniting BH209 also.

The Savage 50 will shoot big conicals with BH209 just fine if you don't push them too fast. 70-80gr should be no problem.
