Just finished first safari and a great experience it was. Hunted with Chris Troskie,CT Safaris,Lephalale RSA,which is located in Limpopo province. Took 39" Cape buffalo second day,54" Kudu fourth day and filled out with Impala, warthog and zebra in seven day hunt. Were treated like royalty and must warn you be ready to shoot,Chris will put you on the trophies. Anyone have experience flying Delta from Atlanta to Johannesburg? We flew JFK to Johannesburg SAA and was not overly impressed with NYC,pigeons flying among passengers in the terminal or maybe I'M expecting too much. If I wasn't such a computer klutz I would post pictures!

Hunting is Exciting! Bolt actions are BORING!!!
Don't mix the two!

Delta is no great airline, but that is probably the best way to get to JNB.
Do you have a photobucket account? Load your photos up to an album there and then we can tell you how to get them to appear here.

I've flown Delta business class to JNB on multiple occasions and found them to be quite comfortable. Another way is Lufthansa to Frankfurt, then Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Joberg. Or, Air Namibia from Frankfurt to Windhoek.

What was the Cost?? > the full cost ! Iff you want to say. breack it down for US! Let's just say quite expensive if you have to buy the ticket. Only about $200 in taxes and fees if you use FF miles. Contact Deb at Gracy Travel. She specializes in travel for hunters going to Africa and has access to reduced fares for those who prefer to travel in business class. In answer to your second question, I've shot all my buff with either a .416 Rigby or a .470 Nitro Express, depending on the range and circumstances.

Yes,I'm with Chris on the Buff and I'm with the kudu you noted. Total hunt cost for myself and my wife, less travel cost, was about one-half of a Bighorn or Stone sheep hunt, pretty reasonable in my book. I'm GH Doubleguns,I used one of my doubles in .450NE with handloads and Hornady DG softs and solids. This gun never misses a beat. The buff went ten yards after first soft point from fifty yards and stood in place, gave him several more to finish the job. Used a WIN. 70 in .300WBY. with 220 gr Nosler Partitions and never recovered a bullet. I feel very fortunate and hope many other hunters can sample Africa!

Awaiting pictures of the adventure!

Though I've not hunted with Chris Troskie I have had several conversations via emails...He's definitely a top-notch individual and PH...and all accounts on major safari forums on the internet confirm his integrity and hunting prowess! Good for you in choosing a fine PH and outfit!!! Congratulations on a great safari Roland

Have flown both SAA and Delta to Joburg. Neither flight is any picnic. Second time, my doctor gave me a sleep aid which knocked me out for 8 hours. That made things a good deal easier and, helped with the time change adjustment. The only real problem we had was when American Airlines refused to transfer our guns to Delta in Atlanta. We had to leave the security area, pick up the guns in "oversize baggage", re-check them with Delta and go back through the TSA dog and pony show.
I would definitely recommend Gracy travel. They know Africa and understand the problems you may encounter. Also , use their meet and greet and gun licensing services. They are well worth the charges. If you are overnighting in South Africa, try African Skies Guest House. Rooms are immaculate and the food is first class.

I always try to get the Delta ATL flight vs a flight through the NE. The customs agents in the SE tend to be more friendly towards guys with guns. They'll compliment a good rifle and ask about the hunt. Hunting is culturally accepted in that part of the country. My father missed a connecting flight because the customs agent up in the NE couldn't put his double back together after getting the serial number. After 30 minutes, he allowed my father to touch the gun and assist him--true story.

Congratulations. I know you enjoyed it and want to go back. I have hunted with Chris and he is a great guy. Now for the spanking. This thread is worthless without pics. I am not trying to be a smartass but if you are intelligent enough to find your way to Africa and back you can figure out how to post pictures. Unless you don't have high speed internet you have no excuse. A caveman can do it. Go to photobucket.com and follow the directions. I know you can do it. You have what looks like a beautiful double. (Even cooler, I see you build custom doubles.) Let's see it!!! Let's see some more pics!!!
I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf....
