Aluk, did those grips come on that 317? If not, where did you find them. Mine came with crappy Uncle Mikes.

The Woodsman is much easier to carry and conceal for hunting than a small revolver. I have shot my Woodsman for 55 years. I got a S&W Kit Gun a few years ago. It's SS. The pistol is well made but has no appeal to me. It's not easy to carry like the Woodsman is. I can't shoot it nearly as well as the Woodsman and it's no good for my two hand hold. I carry the Woodsman in my back pocket, chamber empty with my shirt pulled out to cover it.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Huntsman,
What's the barrel length on that little browning... is it the shorter or longer version? I see it's minute of porcupine/jackrabbit... have you shot it on paper, I'm curious as to how accurate these are?
Thanks,
Jerry

The little Browning 1911 .22s are just too darned cool. A friend of mine has one of the micro-1911 Llamas, and its just a HOOT. Fortunately his is one of the ones that works (very well I might add). His kids started off with the micro-1911 and then worked up to the real 1911; how cool is that?

mines the shorter mini c'mmander. Sorry, I never shoot paper so can't tell you how precise it is. Tiny GI sights and all, it don't do too bad. on critters, cans, rocks and cow patties....

Don, What was your reasoning for going with the Commander length? Both are tiny.

I'm really likin my new Ruger SP101 8 shot 22 cal. I was looking at one of those at the local shop. Tempting. Good that they come with those recoil absorbing rubber grips, too.

I have three that fit the bill:
Colt Cobra 22 LR 3" barrel Colt Detective Special 38 Special 3" barrel Colt Diamondback 38 Special 4" barrel - this is right at the upper limit in size and weight, IMHO.

I can't remember the last time I bought a gun at a gun show. Normally I just walk out with some turkey jerky and a box or two of ammo. Couple of weeks ago, traversing the aisles led to a S&W table. Saw this little J-frame Smith and picked it up. Dang, it pointed like a finger and balanced well. Not sure what I'll do with it, but I think it'll qualify as a "kit" gun. DMc I have one of those and love it. You have some real treasures. I hope to run into a couple of those others.

Thanks Cariboujack, What a sleeper the little Model 60-4 .38 Smith is. It feels simply amazing in your hand. So much so my middle daughter (26yo) absconded with it. If the Woodsman Sport qualifies as a "kit" then this one must also: (...and the only one I consider a real treasure. I agonize over shooting it.) Here it is with all the accessories. The gray cardboard flat on the left of the picture is the original shipping carton. DMc

Nice Steel guys Missed a Match Target short a few years ago, as new in box for 450, seriously kick myself for missing that one. Sold a Ruger MKII 4.25 Stainless that I had sights regulated and I did a trigger job, shot as well as my heavy barrel models, sold it to a family member, that was a handy piece. Owned a 34, 17, and 617 all w/4" bbls, the K frame I liked best. Still enjoy an auto more, the single six shorty in SS was nice but seemed a tad bulky vs. an auto. Astra Constable was nice, as is a Beretta 70s, my 5.5 Bull MK II's are what gets picked for serious use, but they get heavy vs. something trimmer.

1920's Regulation Police in .32 long makes a nice kit gun. Smaller than a J-frame,...pushes a lot more lead,...very accurate.
