I have a custom 264 win mag that shoots 140 grain Bergers into one small hole. It is so consistent I have a 10 shot group measuring .48.

Problem is it has a heavy contour 30 inch Rock fluted barrel and John Burns stock. It's too heavy to hunt with. What are my options.

Build an 8" twist 22" barreled 260 on a short 700 in a McMillan Edge with a #2 contour barrel set up with a short shank. Then you'd have both ends covered.

If it's straight fluted just cut 5" off it and cerakote the muzzle either in brown or pink, depending how you like your starfish..

What is your age? If you are still under about fifty-five you could start lifting weights. When I was younger I carried an 11 1/2 pound K14 and didn't notice it being heavy until recently. I don't the shoulder strap except when dragging the deer or hauling a quarter of elk.

I had a barrel turned down and it didn't seem to affect accuracy at all. It was a 7-300 Weatherby which was about a 1 1/4" grouper before and after.

Leave it alone.

Put a bipod on it and use it close to your vehicle.

Or sell it.

You gotta remember, that the likes of Do Nothing Ringman and Dumb [bleep] Don,only shoot their mouths. Though in fairness, they'll happily prove it. Laffin'!

30" spouts quickly lose their luster and that typically happens on their first outing. They are far "better" when being built and in the Mail, than they are in the flesh. BT/DT and have all the t-shirts.

Barrels are easily massaged, whether a contour reduction or a length reduction(though typically both in conjunction) and there ain't a T-shirt there...that I don't have. Now the ONLY barrel(s) I'd shorten or recontour, are ones that have been proven in current guise and I've lonnnngggggggggg been hip on that very notion.

Were I suffering a platform as you describe,I'd first put the stock up for sale and snag a McMillan, then I'd chop the spout. Contour has yet to be denoted and while Mike flutes with reckless abandon and upon svelte contours to boot(which is good thangs),my Spidey Senses don't tell me that you are flying a 30" #3 6.5 spout. As per always balance/handling are paramount, because without them, you suffer being in the boat you are currently in. It don't take but a nano-second to discern how badly that sucks,in objective overview,as you now full well know.

Anywhoo,I'd wanna be in A5 or Rem Hunter Mode, regarding the handle for utilization of the existing contour and would wanna be flying ADL by default. Knowing me,I'd chop to 24" and would VERY happily toss that half-foot of spout offa cliff. You'd then be fielding a farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better balanced/handling platform, which would still have enough meat to soak felt recoil and assist in chasing trace/impact downtown. If you fell in love with it's terminal affects, the ground work would be in place,to then build a right proper handy/dandy so chambered(24" #2 in a Sako Hunter or Classic) and rest assured that the Pig would then take a very distant backseat in the lineup and become both sad and lonely.

Mike Rock MTU contour at 23" in an A5.

Fluted #6 Rem Hunter for conversation.

As an aside Starfish ROCK.

None of this schit is Rocket Science, though the Do Nothing Dumbphucks will reliably add difficulty, where there is none. Barrels are exceedingly forgiving, despite Myths,Wives Tales and Idiots talking out their azzes.

Chop the chunk and live a leetle.

Hint.

You have to skim a lot of useless overburden from Boxer's posts to get to the ore body but once you do, this post assays pretty good. Unusual.
You now have a rifle which is of no practical value in the field though it sounds like a pretty good 1000yd BR "light rifle". If you want a 264 Mag hunting rifle, you have to build a rifle configured for that. It probably won't shoot half inch ten shot groups but it will be portable and effective on game. GD
