Hey guys, I just put an xs lever rail on my marlin 1895M. I also have a leupold delta point to mount on it. I was playing around with it a little earlier and had a question. Do you find it's better to mount the red dot sights farther forward on the rail, or back closer to where the rear ghost ring mounts(ghost ring currently isn't on the gun)?

Oh, and believe it or not, deer bite. Fairly hard.

Anyone? Does it really even matter, or just personal preference?

I haven't used the Leupy sight specifically, but I do have a Tasco on a Marlin 1894 on the XS rail, and I used to have one on a bolt gun in 375 win and I like them out front. Scout style. I have a Burris Scout scope mounted as such on my 1895.

I have the Burris and the Docter Optic, both mounted over the rear ghost ring style on an XTR 94, and a Browning 71 in .475 Turnbull.

While the location doesn't really matter for using and zeroing the dot, the closer mount gives me a bit more window to see through and place the dot on target.

I had a FF II on my Guide gun, and I preferred it as far back for the reason given by AH64guy

.

Good choice !

That's the place for the small, reflex sights (called red dot sights erroneously, even by their makers) like the Leupold Delta Point, the Dr.Optic, Tasco Optima, Burris Fastfire, etc.

Further away from the eye, like on the front of the rail, is the best location for scope-like, long-tubed red-dot sights of every other make/description, both with & w/o magnifiers.

I am curious is anyone has had their reflex sights out in the rain? Still have a good sight picture? Does the window blur?

Thanks
