Sorry guys I did not know where to post tj=his so I decided the best palce would be here. I just got back from the gun show and a remmington 870 express magnum 12 guage followed me home. I have wanted to start turkey hunting so now I have an excuse. I shot some skeet with it today at a buddies house and then I wanted to pattern the gun for opening of turkey season in April. I picked up some heavy shot winchester 3 1/2 mag loads walked back 30 yards and destroyed the empty clay bird box we hung on the fence. Damn those 3 1/2's will get your attention. My right hand kept hitting me in the cheek. I am looking into getting a pistol grip type stock and would like your advice on any that you have used. Thanks in advance...........Blake

The only advice I can give, is, skip the pistol grip stocks, they have too low a comb, and it has all the time in the world to get a run at your cheek. If you think it kicks now, wait and put a PG stock on it! I've killed turkeys with 2 3/4" shells at 40 yards, you don't need 3.5" shells to do it. In fact, I killed two with one shot using that ammo (couldn't see the second bird). Put a KickEEz pad on it, and forget about the PG stocks. Also, it patterned better with a straight full tube than it did with either the Xtra Full or SuperFull tubes, no need for them, either! Turkeys are tough, but they aren't pelletproof. My father beat me at my own game, knocking down three with one shot, using a .410.

I can't give you any info about pistol grip stocks but I can tell you that Remington Hevi-shot is the top of the ammo heap in my book. At least they are in my 870. I like 6 shot and 3 1/2"er's are much fun. I patterned mine at 55 yards today. It should be good at least 10 yards further if not more. A couple years ago I shot one at a lasered 63. Bang/flop. Not advocating the long shots but hevi shot will do them.

Little brother picked up the same gun earlier this year. After putting a box of 3.5" through it I know my turkey gun will be an 11-87 (stuffed with 2 3/4" shells too most likely). Being a recoil weenie I'll go on record as saying that the 870 with superfull choke and 3.5" shells is about all I want.

The brother in law, who's into all things tactical, keeps talking about a Knoxx CompStock but I've yet to see/hear any more on then than their webpage tells me...
