225 so I thought it was a deal, saw one like it on GB starting was 400. I can't find ammo though that isn't 12-14 bucks a box. I like it because it doesn't have any plastic parts on it 'cept for the follower in the mag might be. it was kind of an impulse buy, oh well. I'm sure I could put it to use

Dave, you're not the only one, my folks sold their house and are staying with me most of the summer off and on while they take an extended vacation/ house hunting trip. not a bad way to do it. I definitely agree with living at chickenbuck!

Just got back from a walk...nice and cool outside now. Is the end of July too early to get fall fever? Cuz with this beautiful weather, I can feel a case coming on. Then I remember we gotta deal with August. Hot, sweaty, smelly old August.

I can deal with August. It usually cools off enough at night in August that it's not too bad. August is fine because September is just around the corner...and November is just around the corner from that.

well here is the food plot update. We have a total of 7 food plots on 2 farms. Farm #1 is all pheasant/duck hunting and both plots (mix of corn, beans, and sorghum) were planted this spring and doing well. On Farm #2 we planted the first one last Sunday (to rape) and sprayed weeds on the rest. Maybe this weekend we can get the rest into rape as well as it is to late for anything else really. The pheasants out there will have to survive on neighboring fields. the deer better not eat the rape either or I swear, we will shoot them.

I have about 2000 acres of food plot planted in Popple.

Popple would be a lot less work, that is for sure.

What the heck is "popple"?
Here in South Carolina we just put out piles of corn.It's legal.

Poplar is another term that is used too.

It pops when it burns. I don't know if that is where the name comes from but that works for me.

Yep...brent is correct. Quaking Aspen, Popplar, Popple...whatever you want to call it, it's what the deer eat where I hunt.

Typically on State and County land in norther MN, large tracts of land are logged. Poplar grows relatively fast and thick. The deer love it for food when it's young and for bedding cover. It typically is used heavily by deer for about 10-15 years for food.

Yeah Stan, well us Northern folk just ain't gotten that lazy yet.

I've known it to be spelled poplar and pronounced "popple" in MN. Aspen or "quakies" out west.

Then we have our low land, punky, stringy, junk version that folks call "bammys" or Balsam poplars, "bomgalian" poplars. (balm-of-gilead)

That stuff is junk.

populus tremuloides is the scientific name, but all above are generally accepted depending on where you are.

Lazy? Its a lot of work keeping three feeders full of corn ( and expensive) :-)
