I'd like to sell this Winchester 70 featherweight classic stainless in .308 (older New Haven production not the new FN stuff). The barreled action was recently purchased used from "nyrifleman" and he reported that it had been accurized by Hill Country Rifles here in Texas. I bought the stock separately. I'm selling it because it's not going to work for what I wanted to do with it.
Here are the specs:
-Winchester 70 Classic stainless Featherweight CRF short action-older New Haven production
-total rifle weighs in at a little over 6lbs on my mechanical postal scale
-Barrel cut to 20" and crowned by Mark Pharr of Tumbleweed's Custom Rifles here in Texas
-McMillan EDGE stock with pillars in brown. A little shorter LOP at around 13" and in overall excellent shape. Was bedded for another Winchester 70 SA and this one dropped right in so I didn't mess with it. Has a small spot of dark grey paint(1/2" square) and on the for end, not very visible.
-Factory trigger adjusted out to a very crisp/light break
-Williams one piece stainless Oberndorf style bottom metal
-Entire rifle and parts of the bolt coated with matte black Gunkote by Mark Pharr of Tumbleweed's Custom Rifles here in Texas. Hasn't been to the field since being coated.
-rifle was MOA or less according to nyrifleman. I had the barrel cut/recrowned it...haven't shot it after the work but I'm guessing it's going to the same or better after the work.
$950 shipped. I have over $1600 into this gun($850+ for the action, $530 for the stock, and about $325 into the coating and barrel work). The reason I'm letting it go for a good amount less that market value is barrel/mounting or holes are slightly off. This won't work for me due to the fact I wanted to run a few different optics in QD rings, but I figure someone wouldn't care. Several very experienced gunsmiths I've talked to say this is not uncommon with factory rifles, specifically older Winchesters. I've got it to boresight in Warne fixed rings with several higher end optics but the smaller 1" tube Leupold VX3 scopes in fixed Warne mounts will not allow for enough windage to get boresighted(Leupold VX3s have about 1/3rd the windage than the higher end scopes have). Bases and Rings with windage adjustment(Leupold dovetail with screw-windage at the back or the Burris signature rings) would also solve the issue if you really wanted to run a certain scope.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Below is a crummy cell phone pic, let me know if you want more or pics of a certain part.
