Finally decided to check this thread out, since it has always been comfortably at the top of the most viewed threads list, and wow! What an amazing thread! Funny how I can remember where I was on mot of the events that happened. Since this thread started I have been to Iraq for my second tour, Afghanistan, and am now reading this thread while in Qatar. Awesome to see a thread here on the Campfire that there is no name calling ('cept in fun!), nothing vulgar, and just good people sharing their lives. Definitely reminds me of my memories of growing up at our Deer camp, my grandparents ranch in Northern California.
(BTW took me about 3 weeks to get through this whole thread!) where you been man? say hey to my kid over in Bahrain....when you coming up to hunt since Dave won't?

(BTW took me about 3 weeks to get through this whole thread!) First of all, a HUGE thanks for serving this great country. Second, welcome to this great thread Dave started. We're glad to have you here. At least once a year I read this thing cover to cover. Somewhere in it, you probably read about my friend Lucas that passed. When I get to missing him, I read this thread from the beginning. It was about this time in 2007 that we learned he didn't have much time with us any longer. Weird as it may seem, this thread has helped me get through that. Welcome to the camp, my friend.

Bahrain? and I thought I had it "rough" here in Qatar! People try to come here for vacation from Kuwait, AFG, places like that, and people stationed here try to go Bahrain for a vacation! Been staying busy here, working towards my degree, hitting the gym alot. I really wanna make it up there in 2014 to hunt some speed goats. don't think the wife would appreciate me using my leave from here to go to Wyoming to hunt!

Ah yes, Bahrain. A couple decades after the first gulf war and it's still an R&R hot spot for servicemen... Some things never change I guess lol! I never got to go myself, I was selected 3 times and each time I gave my spot to one of my buddies as I was supposed to be some sort of leader... So I did my best to try to pretend to be one.  They always came back happy from Bahrain. But I think I can do without, I'd much rather go see Keith in Wyoming if I get a chance for some R&R some day.
