I'm looking at picking up a 338-378 and was wondering how the recoil W/O the brake would compare to a Sako 75 416 rem mag? My Sako weighs 7.5 lbs unscoped and I shoot the factory 400 grain swift A-frame bullets. My Sako has no brake and shooting it from a bench does not bother me at all. Any thoughts on the felt recoil comparison between the 2 will be greatly appreciated.

The recoil of a 338-378 (only shot one once) is sharp. The 416 will move your body more. But in my observation, that quick smack from the 338-378 is more 'unpleasent'.

I can shoot my 416 all day as well (mine as about 8.5 pounds no break). I would not want to shoot that 338-378 all day. But, I could see shooting a box.

Hope that helps.

The.338/378 is a waste of time in my opinion. I owned one before they became a factory option as wella s a .338 and a .340, which I liked the best of all.

The recoil is "rude", muzzle blast "fierce", and it will not kill any better than the .338 or .340 in the field.

I would recommend a more pleasant day with the .338 if you prefer the Sako rifles.
